    Allrighty then,

I'm from Finland, been living in U.S. Chicago area for 8.5 years now. One of the reasons for me to come over here to States was to buy a 1957 Chrysler 2DHT with a 392 hemi. Yea, there were a couple of these in Finland, but nothing for sale. I'm a big Mopar fan, love engines - especially early hemis, and finns (as I said I'm from FIN-land).

So, after about a year and a half of search I found one suitable for my budget from Virginia. It was in pretty bad shape, but in these seven years it has been starting drive and look ok. I've been slowly turning the car towards early '60s California look, with a small rake and very mild mods. Pretty much everything except for body and ****** I've redone. Attached is a picture from 2007 HCPU (I've been in all except the first), which Tudor Jeff - a fellow HAMBer - took while I was driving out from the show.

And yes, it took me this many years to be able to write this intro - talk about a difficult language - all these years I could only read and I still speak Finglish ;)

    Siistiä!

I can't believe you left Finnland for a car.
Most people leave a country to escape war or the law.

    Your car is looking good.

Dunno about the ********, but I've always found ways to get what I really want. Even when it needs extreme actions like moving to another country... :)

Well, as I mentioned in the intro, '57 Chrysler was one of the reasons. All the way from when I was a kid I've always wanted to really experience the U.S.A. I was already working in an American company in Finland - so I just asked the management for a temporary move. Everything worked out and I was able to convince my wife and two daughters (3 and 6 at the time) to move to U.S. for two years (length of my first VISA). After those first two years things changed a lot in my industry (telecom) and as we liked it here we have stayed a bit longer. I do miss the Finnish hot rod / custom / "vintage U.S.A. car" culture, which is a bit different than here in the Midwest.

Cool to see that you guys know the most important Finnish vocabulary. "Kippis" is cheers and beer can be translated as: "Olut", "Bisse", "Kalja" (which you probably already knew).

Thanks. I was at the BTB show this year with my daughter and we speak Finnish to each other, although it actually might have sound more like Finglish as she tend to mix in a few English words here and there. Yea, I do have very noticeable accent. Every time I open up my mouth to strangers the first question is: "Where are you from?"...

It was a cool show BTW. Best local traditional show for me.
