Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by loc8tor, Aug 24, 2008.

  1. Firts time to Macungie, what a nice show(went as a spectator). We saw a couple(even took pics) H.A.M.B. plates but didnt see anyone around to introduce myself, sorry I didnt meet anyone, was planning on making the HAMB and cheese, lol, but got tied up in NJ traffic(went to pick up a pontiac injun). Maybe next year I can have something done for the show...I do have a question though....whats the 100 points test?

The 100 point rule has to do with modifications, so many points for e ach mod. It's too keep the show from becoming a parking lot for original cars. Good idea.

gonna break one of my golden rules.. gotta disagree with noboD

this point system is a dumb idea..
having the point system ensures that a large number of THE SAME cars show up every year.. and ensures the same boring show.. over and over..

sometime someone will recognize that this area needs a "driving event".

i think the 100 point system is a good idea. after all, it is the WoT Street Rod ***ociation. if i want to go to a show at macungie and see a bunch of original cars, i'll go to Das Awkscht Fescht.

a car doesn't become street rod just because the owner threw a set of cragers on it. but.......... that's my opinion.

The car count and the swapmeet was way down from previous years. WOT dont even enforce their own 100 point rule or year cut offs. I was told by a former member of the WOT that 2009 will be open to all cars and trucks up to 1968..........

Sawzall, I think that's a great idea...preferably in a rural setting. Macungie is a great place for a show, there's some shade, lots of room, and a laid back crowd...but I can only look at so many red 34's on billet wheels. There were a few cool cars there though

Exactly!!!.......that's one of the main reasons me and the Kingfish don't go anymore.......same cars parked in the same spots......there's just never anything new to see......

There's also the damn heat and the lousy food........whatever happened to the Jerk Pork vendor?

    hahaha,,,,amazing,,,,,,
    just amazing,,,,,,didnt see those,,,,,thank god,,,,

  16. That's a shame- was Das Awkscht Fest any better?

  17. Thanks for the eplanation of the 100 point rulle......and thank God I didnt see either of the 2 examples of the "graphic" cars there....I did see alot of cars I had never seen before, but, I saw a few that I had seen a shows such as Ocean City MD, and the Boardwalk NJ show.
I was surprised that there were not a larger number of traditional or even ratrods there, I was told the show would be better than the St Rod show at York.....as there wouldnt be as many 20"(diameter) rubber shod 41 willys, red 32/34 coupes and high dollar trailer queens......
but to me it was a different crowd, as it was my first time.....

is there any shows left this year that has a more traditional flair?, preferably something within driving distance to south central PA, be crammed in the 'burban with the whole tribe is a trying expierence, not to mention the $50 wendys stops!(takes away from my swap meet money, LOL)

In was there all three days. One thing for sure that needs to changes less announcing and more music over the P A. during the day. All you heard was about the Gold and silver sponsors. " with out them they would not have a show" how about without the CARS they would not have a show.

The Bristol show is coming up on the 5&6th of October. This is probably more of what a traditional show should be. I always enjoy socializing with people who I don't otherwize get to see until next year, same for fall Wildwood. Even though its pretty much the same it's enjoyable as it is. I'm ready to go next year. There was some really cool stuff there if you looked for it. See you at fall Wildwood in the same whacked '38 Plymouth RPU. As a side note I heard there were 7,000 people there for Saturday nite bands, largest crowd ever at the park for any single event. They must be do'in something right. On Sat. it was tough to get a spot. How many more cars do they need? I agree I,m not sure I like the 69 rule. We'll see.

The guys who brag about how exclusive there shows are becase the got 50 cars and a hundred spectators wish they could pull that off. Not perfect, but my hats off to the WOT.

I believe 2200 is the max amount of cars they allow to enter the show and they were 200 cars short this year. But it seems that way with almost any show you go to car counts are down from other years.

With the 100 point rule, I don't think that many cars from 63-69 will be there since most people won't be able to meet the standards for modifications.

I haven't gone in many years. Too "goldchainerstreetrodwannabeavetteguy".
If you follow the point rules, a REALLY nice mild 50's custom (say, nosed decked, shaved handles) couldn't get in. Just about ANY streetroddy thing can get in, just cause it has a Chevy engine, and driveline.
There's better shows for Kustom guys anyway!

I was parked across from Bird Bird on Friday. Yesterday, it was in the Hot Rod Repair area. I was hoping it was there for a repaint.

If they applied Kustom7777's 100 point rule, half the cars wouldn't get in. I saw enough saw blade wheels to last the rest of my life. On a positive note, there were fewer cry baby dolls, and at least one was under a tire. Hey Jim, you forgot another deduction, they should deduct points for those 3 foot signs people stick in front of their cars which is just a picture of the same car. I want to see the car, not a picture of it.

Everybody I talked to was *****ing about the 1969 cut off for next year, but all us pre-'48 guys must be dying off.

I hope they do a decent job of keeping the newer cars true to the 100 point thing next year. I saw a number of '50s cars which were stock other than spinners and also a totally stock '59 Stude. The other thing they need to do is make people put up their shade tents in a central area (like on the dirt baseball diamond) so they don't take up decent car spaces. In a show that limits the number of entrants because of the park size, they should limit the damn tents too.

I had my other car at Das August Fest, and the W.O.T. car turn out was higher.

Overall, I still had a good time talking to everyone, so I shouldn't be complaining. If I go next year, it will be as a spectator, since I'm figuring it will be all stock muscle car restos with mag wheels added for the weekend.

Mac, Das Awkscht Fest was not as good as usual, vendor count was way down. Car show count was down too. Hell, the parogie stand even burnt up, they had to bring in a mobile unit for Sunday!! But it's still my favorite AACA style car show, lots of drivers.
