Hi Guys, I just recently changed jobs and now am helping the Boys Wheels Dept at Mattel. It turns out that the Hot Wheels 40th Anniversary Tour was taking the Hot Wheels Team to do some "offsite research" for the first leg of the tour. The Marketing team went to promote the 40th Anniversary, they to freebie Bonneville only items and the real Twin Mill and the Hot Wheels GTO. So I got invited to go, mainly because I've been there the last few years. There were 4 RV's 2-3 Hot Wheels Rigs. We couldn't coax the higher up people into taking the Twin Mill out on the Salt. I got to ride and talk with Larry Wood most of the trip. I'm sure he was happy out RV got to the Salt on Wed afternoon. The rest of the RVs and Rigs didn';t ge ther unitl Thursday. We did a pass through the pits, went to the Starting line, I even saw Gene Windfield take a pass. We ended up making out own rocket and propeller cars to race on 50ft of HW track. We did that at the bend in the road and had a great time. Hope fully we'll do it again next year. Here are the pics http://s70.photobucket.com/albums/i120/abe_lugo/B-Ville%202008/ Enjoy! One of the toughest cars at Bonneville - was being used as a pushcar, the bar was removed when I saw it in the pits. another and another Best bike(s)
That is an interesting idea, but I'm working on the Tyco RC team which is part of the boys wheels division at Mattel.
Those are some really neat pictures - you guys must be having a great time. Good to see that Larry is still having fun and doing another tour. Tell him hello from an old Ford designer - Allen Ornes, I think he left for CA in about '68 or so and has done some fine work. Good luck in your work at Mattel.
You can call him lucky now but wait until he gets to Speed KS. We were there 2 years ago in 100 degree plus heat, dust that looked like a dust bowl years revival, and hail that had insurance agents across the midwest crying over totaled hot rods.
We only got to go to Bonneville, only the Hot Wheels Rigs and Larry are going through with the rest of the tour, we have to go back to work.
Looks like you landed a helluva job. The Salt is an amazing site to see indeed, Ill have to make it our there again someday. Thanks for the pics
The Caddy belongs to Duane Jones from Kiwi Konnection. It was the push car for the Harris Family from NZ roadster.
thats a cool job score there, I wanted to stay out longet to see that Hot wheels display with my son, but couldnt. Hey I didnt see Jeff Decker there.
Cool deal Abe. That first shot with the roadster in front of the RV is none other than the HAMB's own AV8-paul.
gidday kiwi duane owner of the cad ...is there any way i could beg or buy a copy of the dvd with the bonneville deal that was on SPEED the other night?pm me or call (661)8715494
Congrats on the new gig! Mel had mentioned you guys wouldn't be a Bonneville because of your new job, lucky you! Denise and I passed a Hot Wheels rig Wednesday when we were heading out of town, we wondered if they were heading for the salt. They had mentioned at the driver's meeting Hot Wheels had helped sponsor the event. Maybe I missed it in your post but was there a special edition car given out at Bonneville this year to commemorate the 60th anniversary?
