I'm going to look at a 73 coupe deville tomorrow cause its cheap and I am thinking the 472 would be a good motor to put in my 55. What aftermarket do these things have?

my 472 was killer just make sure you replace the plastic covered timming gear they like to fall apart and gouge the oil pump housing

Here's the new front page for Maximum Torque

Neat motors, they make massive power and are over looked, so they're a cheaper buy-in. Not cheap to build, but cheaper than a BBC.

Not sure if sedans have disk up front... I know Eldo's have 4wheel disk. FWIW, the 70's cad sedans have the same arms as 70's chevy trucks... it's a cheap and effective way to drop a truck a couple of inches.

  6. 73 caddys only came with front discs...and powerful motors.

Sweet thanks, I'm more thinking that maybe I can adapt the discs (if it has them) to my 55...but gotta see how nasty this thing is in person (been sitting 5 years)

Check out Maximum Tourque, and I know Edelbrock recently started making an intake for them. Also I heard A B.O.P, turbo 400 will bolt right up. I was thinking of putting a 500 in my shoebox.

  9. there are edlebrock intakes, and a new aluminum head for these engines, the 472 and 500 cad

tons of power, and relatively cheap, high nickel content blocks for extremely good wear life.

what variety of 55, ford? or chevy? or what?

check out the 472 in my 55 at:

sorry but havent updated the page in a couple of years i think, have gotten a bit further since then.

getting one of these monsters into a 55 chevy is no picnic, don't know about fords or others

one thing is for sure the big cad sounds awesome thru the fenderwell headers and lakes

Intake manifolds for Ford 429-460 engines can be bolted to Caddy 472-500 engines with minimal fuss...I think it requires and adapter kit, available in the aftermarket.

Saw one with a tunnel ram from a 429-460 Ford cruising around here in a Chevelle years ago...looked pretty wild, don't know how it ran, though.

(He saw the "455ci" painted on my fenders and declined to go for it on the green...ha ha...my car had a 305 in it...but those numbers left over from it's early 70s drag car days scared off lots of dopes!)
