The 100 point thing was set up becaue in the past, they were filled to capacity and they had to limit the cars. In the last couple of years, attendance has been down so much that they don't have the space problem. I gues that's why they are letting in newer and less modified cars.

A lot of my crew is *****in about the 69 rule as well. I hope the spectre of the late models doesn't scare off the real rods. It would be a shame for this to just turn into a three day Sonic cruise. We all probably worry too much. My bet is most of the muscle guys won't show in force any way. Preregistration should take care of keeping the rods that want to stay in place. It is kind of nice seeing people I don't see all year at the same run, same goe's for Wildwood.

Being a member of the club that puts on this show, I have to add my two cents....this may get a little long winded, so those of you who read slow or really don't give a **** about what I have to say, you can stop here and go to the pictures below.

First off...I don't agree with the '69 cut off change. I personally think is should still be 63 and older, but I haven't been able to get to any meetings because of the way I work, so I couldn't argue my point when it counted. For years our show as filled for the following year within a month of the end of the current show. Because of that a lot of people were discuraged from showing up because 2200 cars is the max that the park can hold, and at that it was tight. Also because of the preregistration fill up, the word was out that it was a good show, but "don't bother trying to get in because you won't"....for three years pre registration hasn't filled up as fast as it had in the past, for whatever reasons, but there are still people out there who "know they can't get in so why try".: Here is where I think the club "F'd" up. We are an NSRA club and rather then putting a few ads in Street Scene that there were openings, there were knee jerk reactions to do whatever they could to get car counts up...hence the 69 cut off.

As far as the 100 point rule. That was implemented several years back to keep the antique cars out. They have the Auck Fescht (or how ever you spell it), They don't like rods and customs showing up at their show..our show IS for rods and customs...not stockers. as far as a mild custom not making the 100 point deal....maybe, but ask Mike from the Road Hogs...his first car didn't make the 100 points, but it was obvious where he was going with it and he was cool about it and we let him stay and he hasn't missed since. Where we ask people to leave if its an obvious stock vehicle (with no intent of rodding or customizing it)...we most of the time tell them to enjoy the rest of the day, but please don't bring it back the next day....unless they are jack ***es and start throwing a 5 year old temper tantrum...then they leave now. Because of the 69 rule, the cars are still gonna have to be modified...pro street and pro touring won't be a problem......BUT it's gonna be tough to get it through some peoples heads that a detailed muscle car don't cut it (we'll probably be ******* off a lot of people because of it, but oh well....).

As far as the "goldchainerstreetrodwannabeavetteguy" Yeah we have them, and every one that flaunts there latest puchase with all of the power parking, and trying to shove the latest purchase down our throats....pretty much guarantee they won't see one of the "favorite 15" awards that we give out. I personally do an "Under 25" pick for any registered participant who is...well under 25. I look for the kids (I'm a grey beard so under 25 is a "kid" to me) who do most of the work themselves....I listen to everyones story, but if "daddy just bought this for me", is part of the story...I'll keep looking for another.

For the guy who said he'd like to hear more music over the PA and less sponsor plugs...I agree that more music would be the best....BUT the sponsors give us money that helps with the show, and helps us give more to the local charities that benefit from it....ALL of the proceeds from the show go to charities and scholarships for kids who want to go to school for anything automotive related...so if your not one of the slow readers and your looking for some help paying for your automotive schooling..contact the club...or me through here and we can get you the paper work

Bottom line is we do the best we can, and we appreciate anyone who comes out as a participant or as a spectator. We're just a bunch of beer drinking car guys who take a three day weekend of cars and give money to local charities....last year it was well over 62 thousand dollars ($62,000.00).

OK enough...here are some pics you guys might appreciate..oh yeah...the tire smoking pics are part of the festivites too

ive been going to macungie for the past 6 years,,WOT i dont know any thing about the show i cant spell or say,,,saks fest ????? i sme time se the same cars,,some times different,,
this year it seemed they took an idea from the delaware street rod event at harrington,,they had a prostreet parade on sunday,,grave digger leading the way,,,

was my weekend to work so i only made it on sunday,,car count looked way down, and some of the food vendors i looked forward eating lunch at were gone,,

i have always been impressed wit hthe amount of charity money they give away,,and the fact its a non profit deal,,very hard to find people to give like that there time,,,and every thing it takes to put on a event,as well known as that,,,

no matter what event you go to there wil be high dolar trailer queens,,

i was glad to see the 1969 cut off,,because if my 40 dodge isnt up and runnign by then i can take my 66 barracuda,,,( yes meets the 100 point system, many times over ) but i dont want it to turn in to a mustang/camaro parking lot,,,

ide recomend that they divide off the park,,in years or cat**** some how as to not mix up the hot rods with the muscle or modern prostreet cars,,

and what is the location of the hot rod ho down ?? it is at the german place on bristol road again ???? just my 2 cents:cool:

I was one of the guys who never tried to get in because it was always full but I got in a few years back when a friend of mine couldn't make it and I used his registration. It was a good show and I've been to about 3 or 4 shows since then but it did get a little monotonous with the same cars every year and they were even parked in the same place. I haven't been back for a couple of years, but in the WOT's defense, I don't go to a lot of shows anymore. I guess after 30 years I'm getting a little burned out.
But overall it was a pretty good show and the swap meet was pretty good too, but if its open to 69 now, I doubt I'll go back..........

That's the thing,..without sponsors,...it gets EXPENSIVE!! Sure we may think "oh its corporate America getting its hands into just another thing.." and its true, it sure is,....BUT,...why not use that and turn it around,...use their money to help others out and to give US a good time! That's exactly what's happening. Sure I confess the cutoff dates are screwy, but if I dont like it, I'll just go elsewhere,..or, better yet, get together with friends and put on a car show of our own!

The one really great thing about all of it is that soo much oges towards charities,...there are people out there doing some real good from that ****py sponsorship that you hear over the PA system, and that really counts! The Boy Scouts,...I was an Eagle Scout, they have saved a lot of kids from some bad stuff,....etc. etc.

By the way,...HEY I KNOW THIS ROADSTER!! (he, he...):D

Nice response Ron. There were discussions to open up to 74... we settled on 69. One of the factors was to get new people involved in the show.

Some people don't like the 69 limit, but you are right change is needed to keep it going. You don't have to look at the 69 camaros and mustangs. But if it gets more people involved and attendence up then it's a good thing.I'll be there.I have always enjoyed the show there.

No change in timelines are needed,...more promotion is needed if anything. I used to work in PR with graphic design,...making concessions to later cars isn't the way. Promotion is the way. There's still people around the area 20-60 miles away that aren't that familiar with the show.

If you went to local Votec programs, schools, etc. contacted and worked with different car clubs locally and a bit farther away and showed them something they'd be interested in,..that's all you need. More interaction with the pulic. Instead of static displays of cars that you might be growled at for breathing on to heavy, make it a more welcoming venue with more public participation. Look into history,...see what was done and take some cues,...make the old new again.

That's just me, but I'm not into making concessions in regards to later model cars,....then is becomes a free for all and all kinds of stuff rolls in.

There should be two sections added,...."checkbook hot rods" and "home built" hot rods. Then you could feature the talented shop(s) that someone paid to have their hot rod put together and on the flip side, you could show the guy(s) who built theirs at home, in their little one car garage or barn, with the cash they had, as the cash came in. Base it all on good craftsmaship. Period correctness, etc.

A timeline of 20s,30s,40s,50s,60s period correct hot rods could be a neat idea,....a time line of hot rodding history!
Dear Lord!,..there's a slew of things you can do before you look at opening the flood gates on late model cars!

Not for the guy with that truck it isn't! ;)

Like mix of mullets and loose fitting high top converse basketball shoes and your favorite heavy metal band shirt from 1985,....actually I think I might have just described the guy with the Big Bird paint job?

One conversation stuck with me the whole weekend. A guy came up to me Saturday afternoon and said that he heard we were down 700 cars from the past. I asked him if he walked around yet. He said he was there all day. I asked him how long he as been coming to the show. He replied about 12 years. So... I asked him if he thought we could get 700 more cars in the park. Of course he said no... so, why ask the question? The real deal is we had over 2000 rods & customs... most we've had in the parks is about 2200. We have had over 2400 registered... of course we usually have 100ish no shows. As always if you have a question, concern, or suggestion... hit me up. I'm honest... and will convey information to our car show committee. We really do think about putting on a good show/time for everyone.

    Later,
    Steve

One thing to note... Engine modifications: Points
    1. Non-originally available engine swap (50 points)...

The 64-69 cars are going to have a hard time getting these points. At least 10 people came up to me and said they should get the 50points for an engine swap because they swapped a straight 6 for a big block... I of course ask them if a big block was available in that car... they say yes, therefore, the swap was done with a Originally available engine... you do not get 50 points for the swap. I don't think we are going to get many muscle cars... most of them don't meet the points unless the are real radical... which most spectators will enjoy.

I agree. If you are strict about the 100 point rule, most of the muscle cars won't cut it, and I think the gain in numbers will be minimal at best. I also agree that there was no room for 700 more cars on Saturday.

For me, Macungie is one of the best shows on the East Coast. The people who hate a handful of cars will also find a couple hundred there that they like. There are plenty of cars to love, no matter what your preference. I'll be back.

    Hello Folks,

I made it there just to look around again, it's my 2nd year going there and i'll be back for sure next year. I hope to be bringing my 33 Ply next time.. Great show again. I don't like the year change, i like just going to see the older cars, if they put the 60's muscle cars in there, it will start to look like all the weekend cruises around the local meeting spots. And the points system will just keep things changing over the years, but they could do a no point award also for the guys that are just enjoying what they have..;)

    Have a good one..:)

Gotta throw in my 2 cents worth.
I spent all day Friday & Saturday at Macungie and had a great time. I've been there every year for over ten years, and, yeah, you see a lot of the same cars but you also run into a lot of the same good folks too, as well as always some new and interesting or inspiring cars. Wheels of Time at Macungie is one of my favorite shows, only exceeded by the Jalopy Showdown and very few others. The park setting is beautiful, the show is well run, the prices for food, admission, etc. are not a rip-off...overall it's great and I'll definitely be back next year, although I do like most 60's cars, pastel colors, graffics (especially huge peckerheads and big bird), billit, crybaby dolls, trophy awards, etc. Isn't hot rodding about making a personal statement? Everyone's personal taste is different. There were plenty of really cool traditional style rods and customs at the show. Check out the 9 pages of pictures from the show on HotRod Hotline. Mine's even there...the black with red scalloped "A" sedan on page one. There are probably lots of people who don't particularly like my car. I don't really care.:)
