A regular V-8 bpx will work IF you make a clearance hole for the starter drive. Which also means you can do the same to a adapter V-8 to whatever trans.

    WRONG!
    That aint gonna happen.
The input shaft is bigger and too long and the trans wont bolt up

Don't know all the particulars, but I have a 39 transmission behind my 60. Only thing I can see is they cut the case to clear the starter drive.

Yep ! A buddy of mine is building a 60 powered trike and it is using a 39 box modified. Now I've been told truck 60s used the regular gears ,cars trans were smaller case and gears.

I was told that you can use the Flat-o-matic adapter to run a C-4 behind it.

from what I've been able to gather, the early 60 boxes used the small gear set and the later 60's used the large gear set. the bolt pattern for the bellhousing is the same but the gearbox is physically smaller on the early/small ge****t.

also of note is the gear ratio used on the 60 boxes. they had a lower 1st and 2nd gear ratio to account for the lack of torque in the 60. if you are putting it into a heavier car (bigger than a T or A roadster) I would think about the ratio or rear end ratio (which I believe was generally 4.11:1 in 60hp cars)

they were meant to be general around town lower speed economical cars not commuter types so they were geared low. I've found a 41 pickup with the 8n tractor motor that has the same ****** used in the 60. there is ANOTHER cutout on that ****** for the tractor motors starter. this ones going behind a full size flatty.

Three basic USA 60 trans...1937-39, most got a tiny topshift with tiny gears. Same overall length as 85 (it had to fit the same car), commercial applications got a different trans with 85 type gears and bell casting altered to clear 60 starter.
1940's all got big gears (sideshift in p***enger cars), again cast with space for 60 starters.
85 trans were commercially available rebuilt and cut for 60 during WWII, the only time anyone actually wanted a 60...
Bolt circle matches 85 (I think one bolt misses?) and adaptation only requires disc and cutting hole for starter drive.
Any adaptor will fit, but possibly 60 flywheel might be a problem for automatic. Actually, not a problem...a 60 attached to a C4 probably couldn't move anyhow.
