In the future I see hot rodders and custom guys talking about the future of hot rodding and customs on an internet forum.
Everything goes in cycles......soon the 70's styles will be "in"....then Pro-Street will make a comeback, by the guys who were kids during it's heyday and are older and can afford to build their own, etc.... But the raw material for these builds will change.... Hotrodding, as we know it today, will soon be regulated out of existance by the lawmakers, treehuggers, etc.....to save ourselves from...........ourself.....
I have finally gotten to a place in my life were I do what I want business life family and for sure my cars .So to answer your question I really do not care if its popular or in or out.I do it for a hobby not to make money Its all for me and my family and if it comes in style or goes out I will still be building and playing .MY 2 cents
Hopefully, getting at least one of my projects done. Speaking of that, I still need to call you and get one of your 392 valley pans. On the long list of things to do soon.
who CARES??? its not going anywhere. the only people that care where trends are going are those that depend on it for their iden***y... **** trends... they're like an oversized speed bump in the trailer park. Tuck
I see it changing, certainly not going away. Hotrodding's been around since the second wheel was invented.
I guess i should have been more clear,, We all know Traditional will always remain, guess i was more curious to hear about style's, mixing styles old and new,, walking a fine line when creating, we see where the reproduction world is going,m F!@#! i can't even afford it. I was just curious to hear your opinions on the future of Hot RodN, we see what E-bay has done, swap meets are not the same as they were 8 years ago before the boom hit. Soo where do you feel it will be in another few years. Thats all I was just curious ~S
Tell you one thing, dont belive the parts you order are quality made anymore!! Speedway is ok but becarefull, alot of products are ****ty today. I would like to see hot rodding safe and ALL AMERICAN again!!
Your very right.. KEY WORD SAFETY!!!!!! I have seen some chit,, Me and Notch we wont say any names but it was a stub kit,, mustange two,, I knocked it over standing up and the top hat poped off the stub kit,, you gotta wonder ??? Very good answere
The styles of hot rods will cycle in and out - I agree, the '70s stuff is fixin' to pop again. As far as pro street - who knows, I know I won't take part in that. Traditional will always be in style with the core guys. The re-pop business is going to continue as long as the old stuff gets stupid prices. I think the hobby will continue like the bike deal has, people get interested, then get bored with it and sell their stuff to someone else that gets into the scene. I think it will be a revolving door for a while.
If you wanna play, ya gotta pay... Hot rodding is what YOU make of it...trends or not, I don't follow 'em cuz I build what I want and drive it where I want...and if you can't afford it, you should take up watching the gr*** grow. R-
You're asking about HOT RODDING, the hobby. Not street rodding, the business? Hot rodding will stay small, interesting and fun because it's still about the cars. Yeah, there are some "lifestyle" groupies, but real hot rodding is too much work to keep them around for long. If you make a living from hot rodding, stay lean and flexible - and remember to keep it fun. The street rodding "empire" is headed for a diet. The market capacity is way over long-term demand now. Well run companies making quality products and talented builders will downsize and survive as the market shrinks, but there are simply not enough new guys coming into that market to replace the grey beards that dominate the hobby today. It's hard to imagine ANY future kids wanting the pastel jukeboxs of the 70's and 80's. And, yes I believe there will be firesale prices on plastic replica-rods in a few years, but who will want them? Parts cars? IMO
Inevitably, cars built will be NEWER, as old stuff is overpriced or already sent to the s****per. Most of us are still rummaging around in the middle ground of affordable old parts which is shrinking daily. We already have a narrowing sense of perspective on what is "traditional" in the hobby. Motorcycle fenders, bobbed fenders, too-tall and small headlights, cut-down doors, etc are non-existant now but they were everywhere back "in the day." Not many cars built then were as well-proportioned as 3W-Larry's coupe. It will still be fun.
Here's what I hope won't happen, but it probably will: Thanks to the whiners and eco-nazis who try to kick wrecking yards and "eye-sore abandoned vehicles" out of every hiding spot in the country, all of the old non-running cars will be melted and sent to China so they can turn the steel into junky products to sell back to us. When the Far East repro parts making businesses have successfully put every USA-made car parts business out of business, they will start to raise prices, then we will be forced to pay made in USA prices for cheap junk Far East car parts. Nobody born today will know the difference between quality stuff and junk since all they'll ever know is junky quality. They'll think plastic stuff is just as cool as steel. Cars of the future will float due to the low steel to styrofoam ratio, so all cars will be amphibious. They will blow mold giant '32 Ford roadsters out of red, blue, and green polyethylene and people will snap on an ***ortment of plastic wheels to suit their taste, and they will choose from an ***ortment of giant flame and skull stickers to "customize" their plastic cars. The real daredevils will scuff sand their plastic cars to try to get "water borne" paint to stick to the plastic, but it won't stick and it will peel off after 2 weeks in the weather. People will brag about how many kilowatt hours their battery has or how many amps their motor draws. Argggggggggggg.....
