Never! Hot Rods are two doors with very few exceptions. No matter how nice it is, or how much time & money you put into it, at the end of the day it would still be better as a two door.

I've seen too many people get more doors because the price is right and then get pissed off when they finally decide to get what they relly wanted, and they can't sell it for shit.

I haven't bought one yet so I really can't ever see myself doing so in the future.

The first rod of my Dad's that I can remember was a 34 Chevy four door sedan. I've got a lot memories of cruisin in that car. We had coupes, trucks, and 2 doors ever since, never had another 4 door, but have had a soft spot for em ever since. I'd love put together another early model, or better yet, hunt Dad's old car up again. Probably couldn't afford it if I found it, though.

Just don't shave the rear door handles only so you can "pretend" you have a 2 door!

There was a beauty of a merc, 4 perfect black doors, at the drags. I'd rock it up and down the road. My wife has a nice 4 door 55 desoto. How many of those are even around, 2 or 4 door? May as well hold on to it.

I had a 55 Buick Special 4 door Hardtop when I was in trade school before I got drafted and it was one of the better cars I ever had and I liked the profile of the roof better.
Fast, comfortable and always the choice when I double dated with one of my buddies. For the room and the fact that the girls liked having the heater under the front seat that gave plenty of heat to the back seat. High on my list of "would like to have" is a 57 Buick 4 door HT wagon.
On the 54 and earlier cars I still prefer the two door cars and probably would hunt one down if I decide to build another car that I don't already have in my possession now.
I'll agree that if you are keeping a close eye on resale value that you should probably stick to the two doors in any year model. i can see building one as a keeper as long as a guy does not go overboard with big ticket add on's.

I can appreciate them when they are done right....but other than maybe a daily driver late model (and even then it's a slim chance) I will never own a 4-door car.

why not buy a 4-door then convert it (correctly, not a hack weld-up job on the rear door) to a 2-door. Thats what ive done to my 55 chevy, and will soon do to my 56 chevy. A few folks may remember my manual i posted... get to cutting guys!

The only one I ever had was a 57 Olds Fiesta wagon hardtop. Not normally a 4 dr guy.

I like the looks of some 4 doors- but for me- 2 doors only.
Costs the same to build both so why not start w/ the car you want?
Everyone says they will never sell but it's bad enough to barely break even on a 2 door sale than get beat to shit on a more door sale.

Pretty much all we have over here unless you go and pillage one from the US.

I actually like the 4dr hardtop better, in 57 Chevies and similar GM bodies, than coupes. Nice roof and all that open space with the windows down.

  16. Every car is a 2dr from the drivers seat, and thats what I prefer doing..driving. It does not bother me if there are extra doors in the back..

But I'm a wagon freak too, so maybe that influences me a little.

I would buy a 2dr to resell. And roll in a nice 4dr.

Too late, already did. I just picked up this 52 Dodge last week.
I think it's gonna make a good cruiser. My girlfriends 7 yr old son thinks it's cool.

I know us "older" folks have a different idea that the younger ones. We grew up in a time when a 2 dr was the sport model and the 4 dr was the family sedan. How many models of cars are offered as 2 AND 4 drs today?

And as someone said earlier, the pickins are getting slim on 2 drs ....and the ones you DO find are bringing a pretty high price.

Sure I would rather have a 2 dr but for a lot less money I can have just as much fun in a 4 dr.

4 doors aren't bad at all IMHO. Coupes are getting waaay too exspensive. Even some 4 doors are getting crazy with their prices. I saw a 4 door 49 Merc go for a nutsack the other day. I recently got a 4 door 62 impala. I was hesitant at first but it eventually won me over. I have all these ideas for it. I wanted to suicide the rear door, chop it's head off, the whole 9. And then I spotted a wagon. Now I'm gonna have a moore door with a long roof. Hi 5 to me.

The vast majority of four doors are nothing more than parts cars as far as I'm concerned.

  22. I think it depends on the car, some are really cool as more doors. Other's could be made in to two doors depending on if you want to do the work, and then there are some that are a big NO WAY !

One thing is for sure, suicide doors are always cool.

    Regular 4 doors.....it depends.

  24. Yes, but it depends on the car.

The only four doors I have ever owned were wagons. I just can't get into them. I have some friends that swear by them, but to me, they just don't scream hot rod.
