As many know Big Olds had a wheel bearing issue at the Grand Canyon. Had the right rear replaced just north of the North Rim. Normally a person would go on their marry way and not give it another thought BUT because I had this weel bearing replaced right before I left Detroit on this trip, I knew there then must be an issue with the axle or housing.

Therefore when I got to Joplin I wanted to pull the axle and check out the bearing before heading for Detroit later that weekend. Ryno here on the HAMB was kind enough to offer his shop for the examination, drive me around getting parts and getting the bearing pressed on, helped me wash and dry Big Olds:eek:, and sent us on our way.

Wingnuts was also there on Saturday getting ***istance from Ryno with a broken shock mount. In the hotel parking lot on Saturday night BobK needed to replace a rear wheel bearing and once again Ryno, along with Pork&******, came to the rescue! Last year during the HAMB Drags Ryno opened up his shop and gave ***istance to Jerry from AZ with a trans issue.

The dude is a HAMB hero and I would like to do something special for the guy. Jerry and I were talking about taking up a collection and buying him something that he needs for his shop. We came to the conclusion it's hard to pick out a tool or something that someone needs without coming right out and asking him. (He probably wouldn't tell us he needed something if we asked) So we decided that what he really needs is a press! :D He/we/everyone could have used it a couple of times just this past weekend PLUS there are so many other things that it can be used for.

I was looking at a Harbor Freight catalog and they are about $120.00 on sale. If more money then that is raised I will get a nicer one or use the leftover monies for a gift certicate for him for more tools. So here's the deal, if you want to pitch in to help "thank" a HAMB hero for all the great things he's done for folks in the past and for what I'm sure will be many, many years of continued HAMB help in the future, please paypal a small donation to hotrodladycrusr@aol.com Please make sure you include your mailing address in the paypal info. If you would like to send a donation the old fashion way a check or MO can be sent to

To "sweeten" the pot so to speak for every dollar a person donates their name will go into a hat for a batch of cookies that I will raffle off to the "wiener"!:D

The cookie raffle drawing will take place on Monday, Sept 1st. Monday night I will bake the cookies and on Tuesday I will send them next day air to the weiner so they arrive fresh baked.

A HUGE thanks from me to RYNO for not only all you did for me this past weekend but for all you have done for other HAMB members as well! SPecial thanks to Jerry for all you did as well. Your clothes were too clean Saturday morning before you started and it just didn't look right to me. Afterwards you looked like your old self.:D

I'm proud to call both of you friends. You guys ROCK!

I'll add a few photo cuz I know you guys are visual creatures BUT the rest of the photos will have to wait till my complete adventure story that is coming soon

Denise, I personally think your idea is outstanding to not only recognize a fellow rodder who is willing to spend his time contributing to others but also show him the graditude I am sure most folks on this board feel for someone of this caliber. Watch for my PayPal donation and I will indeed be THE lucky one if I get the cookies. As you know, I know how good they are. Besides, if Bubba Jim's baby boy wins em' he can't have em' cause he's on a diet.

  12. I'm in on this too, and lemme tell ya why......

I already knew Ryno from a couple of HAMB drags ago when he opened his house up to us visiting "hoodlums"---super laid-back guy, great host, with a cool garage and ba*****t 'art gallery' ;)....so stopping him to say "hi" at the Springfield swap was a natural. We'd already run into our friend Mark from Bluegr*** Cl***ics, and he was telling me about a motorhome salvage place toward Joplin....so when Ryno asked if we were coming by Saturday for donuts, I told him we HAD to hit the motorhome place(I'm doing two GMCs)....he asked where it was, and told me his brother worked there  Long story shortened, we went to Ryno's garage Sat to make sure Denise got fixed, then to the motorhome salvage place after he called his bro and told him to expect us.....and his brother Ron gave me a SUPER deal on some stuff(and I mean SUPER!!!!!:D)

It's the least I can do to keep the kharma train on the tracks

    $$$ on the way, Denise;)

Met Ryno briefly this year. Already knew he was a stand up dude from previous stories. Glad to be a part of this.

I've never met Denise, but did see her and the big Olds at York a few years back. And having broken down on the road hundreds of miles from home I can certainly appreciate her predicament and the generosity of HAMBer's in helping fellow HAMBer's out of bad situations.

For that I will paypal a contribution today! I LUV Cookies, and I hear these are the best!:D:D

This one is close to my heart!

Ryno was so gracious last year even with family health problems, it's only proper that this has come up this time around.

A hydraulic press is one of the tools that is not needed often, but when needed there is no way around it.

After what Ryno has done for me and others while in Joplin I will be sending a donation for the cause.

This is just a way of paying him forward.

  22. ho hum - Another story of ryno being a stand up guy. This year, he loaned out his ez-up canopy so that I could set up the auction and have a spot of shade. Last year, he had huge family concerns and was still generous as hell by opening his home to us. To top it off, nobody really has to ask for him to do this stuff, he just steps up and does. THANK YOU RYNO.

As many doughnuts that I have taken over to his shop I think he needs a deep fryer and a load of grease. All kidding aside, Ryno is a Killer guy to know. I met him last year along with Jerry. I keep telling Jerry he is the kiss of death when it comes to hot rods. Wherever Jerry is there is a broken hot rod. But I love ya man!! I am glad I got to help another rodder out and I will be there next year if someone needs help. Keith

Ryno is a great due! I was at his place last year and I played parts ***** for Jerrys trans changeout. It's a great thing to open up your shop to people you don't know.

So, I'm in but I have to say, that HF press is small. Likely too small to do the job you just did.

There is a local place called Steve's WHolesale tools. I got a much larger press there for 180.

That said, Grizzly tools in Springfield might have the best bang for the buck and it's not far from him.

Thanks Rashy......I'm all ears for suggestions on different presses. Slick50 sent me a link to one as well. I haven't looked at the paypal amount yet but I know we can get him a really good one just from the great responses on this thread.
