installing an aluminum fuel cell in my T project. made some brackets for the top that i am welding to the frame and using Jbolts to lift the bottom bracket and compress the fuel cell into the upper brackets.

    questios are

should i insulate the cell from the frame and mounts via rubber sheet like oem or is that a steel/steel practice

should i ground the filler neck to the frame, filler is steel

    this is the cell http://store.summitracing.com/partd...400379+4294920243+4294894951+115&autoview=sku

    thanks for the help.

The cell AND the filler should be electrically grounded to the frame.
This can be done with just a wire. Be sure to use star washers under the wire lugs.

i know about grounding the sending unit.

now i know about grounding the filler.

how do i ground the cell itself?
is it sufficient that the bolts that hold the filler on contact the cell?

Yes, as long as there is metal to metal contact.

  6. Summit may call it a fuel cell, but it's not.

No foam which is what gives a fuel cell its additional safety factor.

    No baffles either.

I like Summit, but they need to change their catalog description of a gas tank with potential problems.

You'll find that it will probably leak between tank and filler.
The inner "C" ring - for want of a better description - weeps fuel because it's not completely welded at each stud.

Along those same lines the plate the filler pipe connects to is probably warped.

You can make the tank work ok, but it's gonna take some extra effort on your part.
