he died a while back, and i was suprised about how little news coverage it got. pretty much went like this "paul newman died today, in other news, the war in iraq blah blah blah......"

  2. I think you are incorrect.
It may be close, but when it happens you will hear it from every news source.
A life well lived and he gave back as much as he got.
God bless paul Newman and i pray him Godspeed.

I had read recently that his wish was to be remembered for his humanitarian work. I think one of his earlier movies says it best " Somebody up there likes me". My prayers go out tohim

I have a very good friend who works for Newmans Racing Team. Newman/Haas I believe it is. He works on some of the old race cars. Don't believe he has met Newman yet as he has only been with them a short time. I'll have to give him a call and see what exactally he does and see if he can get some shots of the old cars.

i meant a while back as in a bit over a week ago, it just seems like a while ago because normally a subject like this would be beaten to death already.

It's very unforunate and yes, very true. Have been seeing the reports for months. I wish they were not rumours but they are fact. Sad.

Yeah, from what I've heard, he's pretty sick right now.
Last thing I heard is that he just wanted to stay at home and spend time with this family (as opposed to being checked into the hospital).
I'm surprised they didn't bring out the 240Z's or the 510's he used to race.
    Sad news, indeed.

I heard him interviewed one time and they were discussing his line of salad dressings. I thought it was both funny and inspiringly honest what he said. Basically, that had he known how popular the line would be, perhaps he and his daughter would not have contributed 100% of the earnings to charity.

I guess I just appreciated his honesty. Sure, he didn't need the money from the dressing, and surely he could always have changed the business plan later. But he stuck to his word a has donated millions to charity with that line.

He was one of the few who lived what he said. A rare breed. As one article I saw mentioned, he was from the great generation. I'm not a part of that generation but I happen to agree with that idea.

I'm not too sure how well some would do if they had to live through 1930-1946.

I understand that he was a tail gunner in the Pacific in WWII. I imagine that anyone who made it through doing that felt like they could accomplish most anything.

Through his movies and racing career he's one of the guys you almost feel like you know, even if you don't.

This whole world is going to the shitter. Who in the hell is gonna replace Paul Newman? Seth Rogan? Brad Pitt? George Clooney?

We haven't got a snowballs chance in hell.

shit then, why am i still talking????? the newspeople are very misleading, it was my understanding he was already gone.

im just an idiot, nevermind me!

  16. In actual fact, he served in the South Pacific during WWII as a radioman for the U.S. Navy Air Corps, and took over the family business after his father's death. The business bored him, though, and Newman took local stage roles. He soon sold his interest in the family business to his brother, went to college and majored in drama. He went to three colleges and was expelled from Ohio University before he settled in. With his handsome looks and easy, everyman delivery, Newman was soon able to earn a living on stage.
    Info from the internet.

His camps for disabled and terminally ill children have made thousands of kids and their families very happy. Kyle Petty joined his foundation some time ago and both of them and their families have made an everlasting imprint on humanity. We have a new camp being developed here in the northwest called "Camp Korey". Check it out.

Paul won Sebring 24 hours as one of the team drivers at age 70...

I saw a link that in August of this year (this month), he decided to go home and stop the treatments for his lung cancer. Reportedly he has a few weeks to go and is doing it all with the class you would expect of a man of his caliber. He will be a welcome addition to heaven. I only hope that someone is able to carry on what he has created in this world. Newman's Own is good stuff too. He seems to truly be a man worth missing and worth celebrating.
