What do fellows use for fuel pressure sensitive carbs like Strombeg 97s or webers. I am running six hd carbs on my six cylinder rail and am using the stock fuel pump with a Holley regulator. It works but is not quite what i want as fuel pressure is irratic. being 2.5 one mnute and next time 4 psi .I have rebuilt the regulator twice using bith the low presssure kit and the higher pressure kit. I have edecided the mechanical fuel pump and a regulator are just not the way to go. I want to run a low presssure hivolume electric and deliver 2.5 steady psi fuel pressure. Anybody have any suggestions. My experience is trying with four barrels and much higher pressure so this is new territory for me.
This works for me on my Ardun with 6 Stromberg 81's. Also worked when it had 6 97's. Carter / Federal-Mogul fuel pump # P70213 . Delivers 25 gph at 2 1/2 lbs pressure. Application is '82-83 Honda Accord 1.6 & 1.8.......My pressure gauge has never gone above 2 1/2 lbs with the motor running also when its off but the power is still on............you might try it..............Bob
HD carbs? Just kind of curious as to which carbs they are. Especially the era. Usually they're Keihin, Zenith, or Bendix. Just wondering which it is.
How about trying a new reg? Summit PN: HLY-12-804, Holley low press reg. You say pressure is erratic? But is it just the needle bouncing around due to engine vibration? Liquid filled gauge? My pressure bounces between 2-3psi....but it's not a liquid filled gauge, and the engine itself runs fine, no flooding the carbs....mechanical pump with the low press. Holley reg.
Ok Hd carbs. Tillotson HD snowmobile carbs reworked and running on the stock slant six fuel pump. I have a holley regulator and rebuilt it with the low presure spring. It is not stable enough. Sometimes have 2.5 psi but occasionally 4 or 5 . When pressure rises above 3 the carbs weep at idle. Doesnt bother me but the starter at the drags freaks out when he see 3 ccs drip out the side draft velocity stacks. Once the main jet circuit is in use it is not a problem. If I could get the pressure to stay stable and not rise above say 3 it would never be a problem. You are suggesting i think that with your proper Holley low pressure regulator that is the case. re the gauge i already have a liquid filled gauge. It isnt the vibration, it is the pressure creep. i cant count on it to stay in the zone i need it at idle. I priced the carter/honda pump but it is $145. Since it is only 25 GPH i would need two . I cant treally afford to spend that much on a fuel pump unless there is no alternative. Re the carbs HDs if you want a look just click the link to my website. How are they for power? AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
Try Napa.....they have small, electric fuel pumps....the one you want is a Facet. They don't put out alot of pressure or volume, but should be about right for your application.
That all sounds correct. The Carter #P70217 and Airtex #s E8310 and E8316 are also low pressure pumps with pretty good low. IMHO if you and get along wothout a regulator you are better off. If you must run a regulator go with a Mallory. Its a much better design.
LOL! I keep one of those, a length of fuel hose, and a length of coiled up wires with alligator clips in my trunk in case I've got to siphon me some gas car-to-car! ~Jason
Here are the specs for the Facet pumps: Facet #40104 is a 2.0 -4.0 psi #40105 is a 3.0 -4.5 psi #40106 is a 4.5 - 7.0 psi I use a 40105 on my flathead with two 97s and no pressure regulator.
25 gallons at 5 pounds to a US gallon at 1/2 lb to make one HP for one hour. is what we use in our race cars for designing the system so a 25GPH will support 250 hp at full throttle continously. It will allow a short burp above with decent volume float bowls however mine are diaphram carbs with no float bowl so i have to pretty well deliver what i need straight up. I need about 35 GPh I think just to be safe. I am thinking the same It would be nice not to need a regulator. They are a somwhat crude device .
