Transporter delivered my 1951 ford f1 today and believe it or not the darn thing runs. So could i get a few options on lowering herI am not looking to lay frame i just want to get to that low and mean look upfront thanks
Front would be a dropped axle. In the rear you can flip the rearend and notch the frame for clearance. Have fun
The 47 car is a transverse spring, The F-1 is a parallel spring front end. Also the F-1 is side steerr and the 47 car is cross steer. Check out my web site I have pics and measurements of the axles you can see the difference www.droppedaxles.com
...for a little lower in the rear, you can knock the rivits out of the rear hanger and re-mount em so the shackles are aiming up 'stead of down.
You can also buy monoleaf, lowering, springs from Hot Rod & Custom Supply (Alliance Vendor). They say they can lower the frontend up to 4 inches. I would imagine good ol' lowering blocks would work in the rear.
i fliped my axels front and rear. netted a 7 in drop with stock springs. need to zee the drag link and build new mounts for the axals to sit in. not a project for a novice
I just bought a 51 today so.....thanks for all the info. I think I mada a good deal. Plus my wife likes the truck. That helps alot. Gary
I used a Volare front end... (back in '90... might do a I-beam now...but love how the Volare rides and drives!!) They are adjustable so that gives me as much or as little drop as I want.... but I drive it the way it is... NO BAGS! (god I hate those things!!!) Rear is a set of old Mazda? truck springs on the 9". (be sure to check pinion angle whatever you do.)
Nice job on the F-1.....Love the look. Wish I had an interior (Maybe it's time of a sewing machine since I've done everything else myself.) I like the wide whites with the primer look. Flatty???
Dude, where did you find gears?!?? I have an F2 with a huge rear end... think the same folks you got yours from would have a ge****t higher than 4.88? ~Jason
I've looked for a year and can't find them anymore. I have a friend in Minnesota who might be able to track them down...
SBC and an Auto....It's my wife's truck and I want to be able to find parts out on the road if she breaks...
