How lenient would cops be to us hot rodders with open headers?

i just posted this thread originally wondering what peoples experiences were with cops and open headers, idk why people are saying "i think luvzccr secretly wants to be a ricer and drive a honda"? but all i know is that open headers get old fast for me at least.

sure it sounds cool, but being inside a car where the noise is loud and vibrates inside, it gives me headaches man... so pretty much two days with the car, and i want an exhaust.

i think someone posted it on here but they were right, something about "he'll have his fun for a little while then get tired of it" and its true sadly. ill get some dual gl***packs or something that sounds pretty cool tomorrow or tuesday. it wont be the full exhaust system, ill have them cut off under my seat or something

oh i was just adding my comments because i have a pretty loud exaust myself, I like hot rods of course,or i wouldn't be here, but everyone seems to think everyone who has a honda has those obnoxious fart cans and acts like an ***hole. there is another community of us who likes the older cars and is nothing like the idiots who drive the weedeaters with the airplane wings sticking out of the back. the community I belong to are the same type of people who restore the old Z cars from the seventies, those type of cars. we do things the same way people on the hamb do, there is no aftermarket support for our cars, so we have to figure things out ourselves, and do our own stuff. I really love this site because there are some really creative people on here, and some incredible craftsmanship. not trying to get off topic or anything.

wells mines fast as well as loud. loud and slow just doesn't cut it. only loud because I tore the engine apart and reworked everything. burning more dinosaur guts to make it that way. :) give a lot of these young guys with the weed eaters a wrench, and you will get a dumb look in return. :D theres a difference between my engine sounds loud like a bunch of mexicans farting in a 55 gallon drum, vs. it's loud because i just blew past you in this old *** car, and you are trying to figure out what the hell is in it.

***uming your exhaust is under the car and you've got room behind the headers and before the mufflers you can run a set of skinny gl*** packs ahead of the mufflers. That really shuts the car up well without killing exhaust flow much. Many car companies back in the 60's ran resonators as mid-pipes just behind the head pipes but ahead of the mufflers to tone down the exhaust. It works well.

I have been p***ed a and abreast with CHP a few times without a rear plate, when I had a chute on the back of my Roadster. I know that is not the same as pipes, but if you are driving cool and don't do anything to slap them in the face, you might be golden.

I/me/we (me and the pops) have never had a problem with the exhaust on the 35' Ford, neighbors complained once that we were "drag racing" because we drove the car down the street at 20 - 25 in 1st gear (never shifted til we got around the corner. was testing out the new electric speedo and stuff). We got some zoomies on it and occaisionally pull the baffles out (boy, she sounds SOOO good with them open headers), but I know the neighbors dont appreciate hearing a loud-as-a-dragster car start up and even just idle down the street on their sunday mornings before 7am (i imagine they like to sleep in on their days off like I do). Out of courtesy, we leave the baffles in 90% of the time. If you cant help but run with a loud exhaust (it usually can be helped though, except in cases like waiting for an exhaust to arrive), I wouldnt sweat it. As much as I love a rumbly loud v8, I dont wanna be the "neighborhood ****wad", ya know? I dont wanna be the inconsiderate guy everyone knows and hates. PS. Being LOUD doesnt mean you sound good. Ex: Ricers.

well not all four cyls. sound like a japanese sumo wrestler farting in a 55 gallon drum, I think a lot of it is the v tech stuff combined with the giant fart can muffler. my older one is carburated and has a nice gl*** pack and really doesn't have the ricy sound, it was one of the bigger displacment engines too, which really makes a difference in the exaust tone, but even the newer ones don't have to have that annoying sound, I put a raptor muffler on my wifes 98,because it was cheap, and it actually has a nice deep sound, and isn't annoying at all. if it had sounded like a weedeater with gas,she would have made me cut it back off.

the only 4 cyl ive heard to sound good is a built WRX. real mean soundin... my 58 chevy ran open headers for quite a while, i liked it. got the mufflers hooked up finally only cause i was sick of people askin when i was gonna quiet the car. a built 355 sounds good thru open headers, in my opinion
