The french fellows came on the salt of Bonneville this year with their side-car moped (saline contender)in order to beat some never upgrade speed records... And they are gone with 4 speed records. It was a really cool adventure linked all day long on their blog They will be on the salt again next year with again a 3 wheels car (english car called Valiant) modified with a turbo charged engine. Check this link if you want read more...and practice your french language. http://bonneville2008.canalblog.com/
That thing looks like it could be Jack Skellington's trike! I think I understood bits of the blog, and I always love seeing what scenes and things in our zoo attract the eyes of foreigners...
Very CL! ... My French sucks ... but the pics in their Blog pretty much told the story... They should make a movie ... "The World's Fastest Motobecane" I sure hope they didn't judge all of our cuisine by their meal at: ... or our wine by a "low-end" bottle of Cali Red: zecoch ... Accueillir au H.A.M.B.!!!
we were next to them in line a few times...thing sounds pissed off..haha it was amazing how many bikes were there this year...
I talked to a couple of the guys. The bike was a '55 and if I remember right it was 50CC. There were 4 guys who brought 2 pieces of luggage each, 1 for clothing and 1 for bike parts, They shipped the engine in a package before hand. Each of the 4 guys were scheduled to ride the bike and their goal was for each guy to go 55mph and each set a record. The last time I talked to them they were removing the side car and preparing to run as a 2 wheeler on gas and then on fuel. They were pumped up! Charlie

thank you for your enjoyment a good link to be visited, and so on : http://www.lestriplettesdebonneville.com/Pages/Album/AlbumRubrique.aspx?rubrique_Id=29 Next stage the saline warrior. I bet they won't carry it in their luggage! it's said :the car has been built for a BBC show called Panic mechanic, and it won the challenge. Andy saunders bought it and modify it in order to run Bonneville salt flat record... Then a member of the continental Tricycle bought it. It was ....5 yrs ago. http://www.lestriplettesdebonneville.com/Pages/Blogs/blog.aspx So salty guys keep an eye wide open!!! zecoch Ps for Hemi32 welcome means Bienvenue in french language (lesson one part one lol) ;-)
The American comedian Steve Martin used to say "Those French have a different word for everything!" As I stated, my {grasp of the} French {language} sucks ... i.e., I can't read, write, or speak French. I was attempting to "Welcome you to the H.A.M.B. community" ... so would that be "Vous bienvenue à la communauté de H.A.M.B." ??? Eagerly awaiting lesson one part two
Brilliant! Three wheels, 50cc's of hand carried madness, and a picture of Disco Dave n' Sue into the bargain!
That was a neat little bike and I had heard they brought it over in their luggage. Talk about determination and creativity! I saw one of them take a nasty spill off a trailer onto the salt, I hope he is ok....
I have been going to Speed Week annually for over a decade. These French guys certainly brought out the enthusiasm one always hopes to see in teams at Bonneville. The only drawback is they had no T Shirts for sale! It would have been a great souvenior of their efforts. I see them again next year!
They were GREAT at the rookie meeting they asked 'Which side of the return road do we drive on?' As we were staging our car I watch one of em push the bike backwards to the line and then turn it round at the start. Perhaps so no one would see him coming. I talked to them Very Very nice guys.Maybe a little jetlagged but nice none the less. I figured I could beat them with my pit bike but had no leathers
I would suggest a google search for Andy Saunders...he's a fooking nutter....he did a Ford concept clone a few years ago...for the street!! owns a genuine 50s concept as well as a Lancia Zero...just check his portfolio....it#s worth it

That little trike is about thirteen kinds of cool! I'm going next year, for certain, if only to be there, watch, and take a buttload of pictures!!! Gilles, c'est bon! Le triporteur es magnifique!
