Quenching after heating will make the metal harder and more brittle, you have to let the alum cool slowly to anneal (soften) it.

Sweet. You never know what is possible until you try. I still thought it would crack! Looks cool!

First question is, do you have more material than you need...??

If you do - experiment - try some of the above.

If not, I would make a plywood buck, same shape as your hood, but only wide enuff to fit in the back side pocket of the trim. Like a fence or rail.

Soot the part in the area your going to bend, burn off all the soot with O&A and let it cool.

The part will be dead soft at this point, try and bend it over the buck, if it works your done - if it bends but springs back to much, make the radius in the buck tighter & try again - if it still wont bend, clamp the leading edge to your buck & ( heat as you bend )

go slow & try not to over heat - if you do over heat, you will see it very clearly...!

    axeman39,

    Fantastic......I stand corrected.

I worked in a contruction fab shop & worked with threshold all the time....and had very little success bending, without some fractures &/or cracks.......

If your process works.....have at it.

    Best of luck.
