Just finished up these F1 combination shock and headlight stands. I was going to use the F1's and a set of Model A stands bolted to the frame, but was looking for a cleaner look and this is what I came up with:

Cut up a perfectly good pair of F1 shock brackets and Model headlight bar as shown:

    Weld em up like so:

    Drill some holes for mounting:

    Bolt your lights in:

    There you go:

Its not real high tech but looks clean and simple.

Very nice. I did the same thing about 10 years and it's one of my favorite details on my roadster.

Its a 52 Case tractor grill which has been stretched and wrapped around a mustang 3 row radiator.

Brett, have you given any thought about putting a filler panel on the bottom of the grille? I think a duplicate of the top grafted on the bottom would give it a more finished look and fill in some of the space below it. It would also make the car look lower in the front. Just a suggestion, feel free to disregard it.

I have been looking at the very same thing for a couple of weeks. I will be taking her down to Killer Kustoms (Mikes place) next weekend to perform a little 2 or 3" chop - and will be conjuring up something with kustombuilder along those lines.

Thanks for the suggestion keep them coming!

I can only imagine what you and Fat Hack would come up with for a mill if I let ya, I'll be running a warmed over Ford 289. Although I did pick up a sweet 425 nailhead not so long ago - naw I'll save that for one of the next 3 projects I have swirling around in my head! Its a sickness.

  12. Nicely done.

Mike: I'm still liking that cross bar and it's on the agenda if I ever get moved.
(About 1/4 done so far with both roadsters in storage in Las Vegas. If things work out we should be in Sunny Arizona by the end of the month. Than, after all the honey-do's maybe get the garage organized and if I'm lucky get back to roadster stuff by October.)

Anyway, here's another take on the crossbar arrangement.
(From what I see the crossbars damp out headlight vibration on some of the lighter mounts, but those pictured above look solid enough that vibration shouldn't be a problem. Way to tell I guess is if you're always replacing headlights....)

    I got $20 into mine.

  15. Nice work Levis !!

I appraoched my mounts a little differently. I decided I wanted the F1 mount to fit the width of my Deuce rails. Just personal preference I guess.

So to that end, I shortened it between the two mounying holes by 10mm. Then I shortened the actual "shaft" by 20mm, then heated and bent it to give me a curved F1 mount. Its being chromed as we speak.

Check ou the pix...you'll see what I mean. I like this detail on my 3W coupe.
