Chop the truck and they wont bother you any more ! No , just kidding, put some baffeles in it and keep driving...

  4. she got a ticket for "NO EXHAUST" not for noise. "No exhaust violations" are vehicle equipment violations, in most states, not a noise violation. You can be busted for both. Most states require an exhaust system, read your "state vehicle equipment requirements" for specifics. Zoomies or short pipes sticking out from each exhaust port usually fail the "exhaust system requirements" in most states. Because some people haven't been busted just means you haven't been caught not that the vehicle is legal.

OLD TRICK ! Call the police department everyday and ask for the officer . Do that for a couple weeks and you will find his day off . Have your court date moved to the day he is off . He probably won't be there on his day off , you can almost bet on it . Then the case will get thrown out .

I dont know about the cop shop that pulled her over but that wont work here in FL...See they legal system got wise to that and now pay us a min of 4 hours....PLUS a witness fee paid in cash to the officer to show up to defend the states case....I'm usually out of court within 30 min....sometimes an hour...FL dont like loosin...and in the off chance that I cant be there...I just call the court up and reschedule, all my courts need is 5 min prior and they will resched.

No exhaust sounds like a proof of compliance issue to me...honestly I didnt look at the law link...like the other blokes said, you'll prob get outta one but not the other....then you'll end up with court costs which are some bucks...

Again like the other blokes said, put some baffles in...its obvious that he has you marked...thats the good part about living in a big city (for the citizen) you rairly see the same person twice...it's obvious you dont have that luxury in your town.

I wish they had the excessive smoke law here, we have a number of people here driving mid seventies cars and fogging for mosquitios. I mean if you are producing so much smoke that is blinds the drivers in both lanes for a quarter mile, maby you should stop driving it. 4 quarts per mile. :D ok back on topic.

  10. About 150,000 Harleys this past week... which makes my Zoomie car sound quiet! (still not legal)

You're pretty much screwed on this one. Your only hope is if you can research the law, and find that there is a protocol for measuring the db of the exhaust, and that that protocol was breached. Even if there is no specific db limit on the books, once the judge hears that you are running open headers, your case is virtually DOA. Believe it or not, our criminal justice system does operate with some common sense, and even as a custom car guy myself, I don't think it's unreasonable to feel that open headers are slightly outside the bounds of the law on a hot rod. They are brutally loud, and IMHO don't sound good at all. Just lots of noise. In fact you're ruining your low end torque production with the zoomies. A street motor needs some back pressure. Do some research into the laws, especially the one that you are getting ticketed for. Chances are though that gettting an attorney will not be a good move. Your case is built on a foundation of shit, you'll have to pay the attorney at least $200 for the appearance, and you'll probably lose anyway.

Take the money, pay your fine, and use what you would have spent on the lawyer on some new exhaust. We all bend the rules a little bit when it comes to the law, but something as flagrant as zoomies is asking for trouble

it wouldnt look bad with lake headers and a visible glasspack under the car, if the guy stops you again after a new exhaust, take him to court

She got the ticket for "no exhaust" technically zoomies are exhaust!! Bring a summit catalog & show them that zoomies are in the exhaust section( don't show them the "not legal for street" part!lol.)
Doesn't take much to get a ticket thrown out, but REPLACE it with something legal first!!
If you go there & show them you complied they might just charge you court fees.
But around here if a cop "marks" you you're in for it, you won't be able to pull out of your driveway with gettting stopped.
No one like being proven wrong!!

  18. Jim, zoomies are an exhaust PART. This aint even worth the effort of trying to get it thrown out. She's wrong, the cop is right.

At the very least, ask to have the two tickets merged together and handled from that point forward as one incident. That way, if found guilty, the penalty will only be based on one incident of driving with no exhaust, not two.

Zoomies are lame on anything but dragsters and drag boats...

If you fight the ticket, the cop is going to take the state ordinances book home with him and find about 50 things to write you up on. Then he's going to camp out on your chosen route to the grocery store and give you 5m over the speedlimit tickets...

Get some real exhaust on it... Even lakes headers with baffels would probably work...

If you at least try to comply with his way of thinking, he might leave you alone.

I remember a guy from california who was selling zoomies that also had a regular exhaust hooked up.He had a valve that would open to the zoomies only if you wanted.I believe the car was a 34 roadster. You might check to see if he is still selling these. In Ohio your exhaust must go past the divers door to be legal although i know of a few cars running zoomies with motorcycle inserts also.I dont believe they can write you a ticket for the same offense in the same day but i did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I'm the king of fighting local tickets. I NEVER just pay one. Stupid? Maybe, but I have fought 4 in the last four years and WON every single one of them. A 20mph over ticket won because I proved that they violated federal law by failing to post a speed limit sign for over 3 miles. A no taillight ticket because I argued that my car has THREE taillights and I*m on;ly required by their local statute to have TWO. My left one was out. Then the county attorney brings out the statute and it says that one has to be on the r4ight side and left side of the car. I then counter with please show me where the right side of my car ends and the left side begins. My third upper brake light was half on the left side and half on the right side. I won. In another case with the pohdunk city near me I asked for a jury trial. They are not set up for jury trials and have no jury pool. They didn't even have a place for a jury in their small courtroom! They said it would take too muchg time and $$. I said so what, that's not my fault and by LAW I am entitled to a trial by a jury of my peers. They dropped the ticket and have never written me another for ANYTHING.

On your case, the FIRST thing to do is to actually READ the law under which you were ticketed. If the law says something about having "no" exhaust, you already beat it since zoomies are a form of exhaust. In fact I just googled zoomies and they have a set on thgere that sells for $1,200! Now that's some exhaust! The next thing you need to focus on is the year of your car. Your car is only legally required to maintain what it was originally required to have in the year of manufacturer. If the state can't define what that is, then they can't ticket you for not following it.

But read the actual law itself and any laws relating to year of manufacture.

from the link in my previous post, read it and weep:

    "Chapter 8.--AUTOMOBILES AND OTHER VEHICLES
Article 17.--UNIFORM ACT REGULATING TRAFFIC; EQUIPMENT OF VEHICLES

8-1739. Mufflers and noise suppressing systems.

    (a) Every vehicle shall be equipped, maintained and operated so as to prevent excessive or unusual noise. Every motor vehicle at all times shall be equipped with a muffler or other effective noise suppressing system in good working order and in constant operation, and no person shall use a muffler cut-out, bypass or similar device.

    (b) The engine and power mechanism of every motor vehicle shall be so equipped and adjusted as to prevent the escape of excessive fumes or smoke. "

Why is it that some people don't think the law applies to them?
