just wanted to say that everything i've heard about gene winfield is true........i had the pleasure of meeting him at lead east yesterday, and he is as nice a guy as everyone says.....a true down to earth guy with absolutely no ego or attitude. he actually took the time to talk with me at length and was genuinely interested in what i had to say,,,,a true living legend,,,if you have not met him, you need to,,,,there aren't very many living legends left.....he is doing a metalworking seminar in jersey in the spring,,,and i am definitely planning to attend.........
Gene is a true living treasure. I have talked with him several times at Turlock and Paso, and he always has a warm smile and firm handshake. He is one of a kind. If you get the chance to meet him, don't ask him to sign your dash, ask him some history!
I'd definately go to a Winfield seminar! Didn't go to Lead East this year, screwed off and went to the beach instead.
yes, Gene is truly one of the Greatest. Not only an awesome fabricator and painter, But a real Gentleman. I've taken his class, and to watch him pound metal for 10 hrs straight is very inspiring. He also loves woman as much as I do. He's the man. B
He's gonna think you girls are stalking him.... And he'd probably be okay with that! He's truly a class act! Flatman
Ever notice whenever Gene's name come's up on here, it inevitably end's up with everyone saying what a great/nice/awesome/talented guy he is? Well deserved in my opinion.
I love any opportunity to post up my pics of when I met him in Yokohama in 06. Definitely the highlight of my trip to Japan. Gene spent a lot of time talking with me and fellow HAMBers, Martin and shawnc over 2 days. Great guy. Pete
I have got to talk to him a few times. He is like talking to Blackie he has so much histery to tell it would take a year. Ladycruzer your a class act. Bob
Absolutely. Joe and I met him in Detriot this year and caught up again with him on Saturday at Lead East. He took the time to go through his entire photo album with a short description of each car he built. Awesome. Doesn't get any better than him. Maybe it was me, but his smile seems bigger in the picture with Stacy. He kept calling her red, haha. Seems to me he's a womaniser!
Jim whens the winfeilds class, I like to meet up with him again.. Call me jim, we gotta talk about the swap meet thing Won the raffle at his last class in ohio
Like every other post says, living legend, master metal man, STILL a skirt chaser, and an all around great guy. The Choppers are proud to call him a friend. Gene was a great help with the side trim on my 41 (49 Merc beltline trim) as well as an old trick during the chop by Guildner (using pieces of a shoebox roof around the rear window). Lets hope that Gene's immortality contract he signed with the devil never runs out!!! D.
I second that. Everytime I go somewhere I know I will see Gene at I think of things to ask him. The legends that are still around us now, we will dearly miss in the future. Brian

Gotta agree, Gene's a great guy Now go out there and BUY HIS BOOK! Cool historic pictures, great stories, and you wouldn't believe all the things Gene's been involved in...drags, Bonneville, Kustoms, Rods, TV, movie and commercial cars, Star Trek, AMT models.........
