in my 69 dart i have 3.73s i used to have 26" tall tires and it got pretty old fast on the highway, i went to a 28.5" and its nice on the highway but ridae around town on the converter, not too cool. my 31 es*** has 5.13s, those are really not cool. not like i can call up richmond for a set of 4.10s. anything over 40 and it sounds like rods are gona be flying shortly. i guess thats why the speedo is black from 55 and up. my grandfather told me when he was a kid, he couldnt really remember any speed limit over 40 mph, i guess that explains a lot. when i hot rod it im going with a 3.55 8 3/4, and i have a 2.7x case that can be for the highway, i would really like to go with a t5 well see. i definitely want this car highway friendly.

Built my '54 Ford 4door in '92, 350 chevy/350 trany.and 2:15 x 75 R 15 Tires, had 4:10s in it. Drove it till '06 when I tore the pinion bearings out of it, I drove the car to FLA. 2 times, Tex. 1 time I don't know how many trips to car shows out side of Indiana, In '98 went to Ford World Headquartes to a car show then on to Niagara Falls NY. to a car show there, then back home ran it around 4300 all the time plus all the same years flame throwing and have not done any thing more then change the oil and kept it tuned up. And it it still runs good a little smoke when it starts but it's a chevy, just comes with it. Now the car has 3:54 in it and it ****s to drive gave it to my 22 yr. old son, still drive it once and a while just to do some flaming. And the motor came out of a wrecked motor home with 96,000 on it and I did not take it apart put it right in and drove the hell out of it, grease and all.

I run 4.56 in my 64 Comet with a 5 speed but had a 4 speed in it and did some 500 mile trips at between 3000 and 3500 rpm's . It sure makes p***ing fun with the engine already in its sweet spot.

Ran a 390 FE, C6, 3.90 gear, and 28 inch tire for a few years in the '70s in my '40 Ford coupe. About 20 mph per 1000 rpm. Not too bad when the speed limit was 55 and the traffic moved about 65 or so, but really pretty buzzy overall. Went to tall (2.75) gears a few years later, and while the car still ran pretty well, and cruised a lot better, it wasn't nearly as responsive overall.

By the way, the car now has a 351W, AOD, 4.57, and 30 inch tires now. Digs nicely around town, and cruises great in fourth.
