As I mentioned earlier, I got an opportunity to do a consulting job in the Netherlands. I'm leaving on Tuesday and I'll be over there for much of the rest of the year although I will be back for the Rattle Can Nationals, Highway 99 Hot Rods open house, and the NHRA's California Hot Rod Reunion. I'll be working in Leiden during the week but, on the weekends I plan to do some visiting and sightseeing all around. If any of you who are in Europe would like to get together for a visit or if there are any cool car events going on, please shoot me an email at dillarddon@gmail.com Thanks, Don
Don just put this thread up on the UK NSRA forum hope this helps. Have a good trip. P.S Thanks for all the cool photos. Paul.
Hi Don, you have to vist the Head banging in Finsterwalde!!!! check http://www.hotheadseast.com/ Get an airplane from Amsterdam to Berlin , rent a car be there. Otherwise it's a 600 mile drive.Well worth it Best show with real old school drag racing held at an old WWII airbase. Race is Saturday , but show starts Friday. Huge Saturday night party with bands. Fly back/drive on Sunday morning. It's soooo different from any So-Cal show, you will love it. If you like , send me a pm for further details Regards Michael
I caught up with Erwin Planting (Low Flying Dutchman?) when I was in Eindhoven a few years back. Not sure if that's anywhere near where you're going.
Great news Now we will have the great photo event coverage that you always do ... from Europe Have fun, be safe ...
have fun out there ! If the Roadster is done in time i want to put it back in the Suede Palace - end of January. Axle
It'll be done by then. If every thing goes acoording to plan, or even reasonable close, it'll be done by the CHRR weekend.
What Micky said. If your schedule allows it , make sure to go to the Hot Heads East 1/8th mile race in Finsterwalde, near Berlin. That´s the place to be next weekend
I'll try to get to that event in Finsterwalde. How far is it from Berlin? If I fly fron Amsterdam to Berlin, can I get there without renting a car?
It's 80-100 miles south , depends where you are in Berlin. I would say by train, Finsterwalde has a railway station. We can pick you up there. Berlin has a good Metro, so that part is easy. Michael
Dear Don, it would be a blast to have you on the Finsterwalde airfield this weekend !!!! Yes, like Michael said we ALL pick you up from the railway station. !! Finally we will meet the guy who did all the nice pics from all carshows we weren´t able to visit ! So we can thank you in person for all the great event coverage and have a cold beer together!! See ya´there ! Stefanie
Since I haven't heard from you I take it I got p***ed up on the ***istant job? Great seeing you at Bonneville and congrats again on the good karma. Here is a link to a really great car mag I've been told is really popular over there: http://www.customcarmag.co.uk/ I've seen schedules for events in it before. Have a great time and not that I need to ask but take a lot of pics please!
Hi there Don I live in the Hague just south of Leiden. We got a small hot rod scene overhere, starting with gl***fibre rods and now all building real steel rods. This week I will go to Finsterwolde and the next weekend I will go with some friends with 2 '34 coupes and a '49 Chevy panelvan to the Hot Rod Drags in England. if you want to see some altereds and HotRods racing at the quarter mile, dont miss it. They even got a flathead meltdown race. Hope to see you there Leen
How are you getting there? Any chance I can tag along? I got into Leiden today and I'm still trying to figure out how to get around here.
Check out this place, the world's largest collection of Fords outside the Henry Ford museum. It's a quick train ride from Amsterdam then a cab or bus - it's worth it! http://www.fordmuseum.nl/cms/
The place is dead flat. Get a pushbike! Although it probably gets a bit hilly when you get towards England.
Hi Don, welcome to Holland. Am Amsterdam based (can't make Finsterwalde though - am in New York that weekend)...back on 9/15 ...so if you feel like beers in the future just send a PM. best...and go to Berlin/finsterwalde - really worth the struggle... j P.S. check transavia.com or airberlin.com for a ticket...
Hello Don This saturdayevening there is a meet in The Hague called the "Cruise Brothers". (Zichtenburg-Den Haag) It's some 20 miles south of Leiden and held every first saturday from April to September and there are about 300-500 US cars but not a lot of hot-rods. If you like you can meet me later to see my cars and i am 40 miles south of Leiden near Rotterdam. Hope you have a nice time in Holland, Hennie
Hey Don if you can take a train to Bielefeld (germany) , it's probably 200miles and we pick you up there and you can drive with us ( three cars) to Finsterwalde we are leaving Friday morning 10:00 AM Michael
Hi Don, Just stumbled upon this topic. I just came back from the SaturdayNightCruise in the Hague what "dutch deuce" was talking about. Wish I had seen this topic sooner, I could have given you a lift in my '60 Chrysler NewYorker to and from the meet. I hope you were able to visit this meet regardless if you aren't at Finsterwalde right now. If you like '60s Mopars you're welcome to come over and hang around at my garage. It's located between Zoetermeer and Rotterdam. The coffee is always hot.
