Make it safe, and put some wheels on it. The wheels in their current state kill the car.

Those are the stock poverty caps. The wheels look like chrome hoops and painted centers.

Way back in the day, They sold clamps to lower the back. I had some.
Go really slow if you cut coils. The leverage thing will make the car settle twice the amount of coil cut. I would not heat coils as they can break next to the heated area.

I want to sell my 2-dr project. No rust, nice parts. Also 2-dr parts car goes with it.

yeah, $1100 was what i paid for the car, but near me, your not going to find a 1960 era car this clean, theres some previous bondo work, but no rust.

i think i would rather cut the coils then heat them, and i would like to have a 2 door, but i dont mind a 4 door, because its old and something i can cruise in and make it a bit of a custom :D

no need to put it on a 4x4 frame, thats what my cj7 is for!

Mine has pontiac boneville taillights, 54 chevy grill, and a 59 chevy front bumper plus some light shaving. I say go for it half these nay sayers couldn't fix up a 4dr if they wanted to probably they only know how to work on 2drs. I've had more fun in my 4dr chevy than most will ever have with a 2dr car.

id get the stance right first, then the wheels and tire combo, i would go with a skinny white wall, like and inch or less, i think they look better on that style of car.
and since your on a budget i would just paint the wheels a cool contrasting color and do some fades in them with a lighter color

A new coat of gloss black rattle can on the rims. I think ecklers sells 3" lowering springs for about $100 a pair. If it's got a six, split manifold, then smitty's or cherry bombs with pencil tips. spend time really cleaning up everything. and if you want spider caps and cal custom trim rings...then grab the ol'lady, and get a burger and have fun.oh by the way some good shocks that fit for the lowered ride. stance is everything.

If it were mine, and I like four doors, I would paint the rims a nice color other than red - such as baby blue or maybe a light shade of purple or cream, and get some bullet nuts or baby moon caps. Skirts are a possibility, as well as Bellflower tips. A guy who ended up with my old 63 Impala put stock 69 Impala springs in it and it dropped the whole car 3". Maybe try that. It rode nice and decent suspension travel.

I say loose the speakers too! Then paint it black with white doors and a old time red light on the roof.

I would sell it and find something more interesting to work on than that. The world is full of cool cars that have 2 fewer doors. Just my stupid opinion as always. Life's too short to settle. Out!

If the body is slick enough that you can do all of the prep work and get it really slick in primer there is almost always a guy in every town that will shoot the paint on a car for a few bucks (probably a couple of hundred now) if you buy the paint. White (shiny) won't break the bank and from the ebay car photos it can look pretty sharp.

Find and reinstall the missing chrome or what ever it is trim pieces.

That with either a set of chrome smoothies and narrow white walls (budget here, wide whites will blow the budget by them selves) or the narrow whites and paint the stock wheels with a bright but non red color and put on spyders or a set of baby moons. Even super shiny black rims with baby moons and narrow whites.
On that car I think I would just cut a coil on the front to bring the front down a bit and get that mid 60's rake.
If you have any thing left in the kitty put a set of nice sounding pipes on it. Duals out the back where they belong, don't blow the money on the chrome side pipes.

That would have it looking pretty much like several of my buddies had their 4 doors in the mid/late 60's (Cl*** of 65 here) and by some diligent shopping it should stay in the budget. Back then just as now a Belair 4 door was quite a bit cheaper than a two door and I think back then the insurance was cheaper for the younger guys.
With a bit of hunting you might be able to find a decent set of seat covers and a carpet kit that won't break the bank.
By doing some serious shopping for each item and doing as much of it yourself as you can you should come in pretty close to the budget you set and have a sweet looking car to boot.

  19. you could do something similar to what I did with my 59.

looks like a good deal, I wouldn't mind owning it. I'd do some fades on the wheels... dark blue on the outer ring, going into a silver-blue in the middle. Maybe try out some scallops, if it doesn't work out, just sand it off, and hit it with primer again. Repeat until it looks right. There's a lot of little things you can do that add up to a lot.

I think you could sell it for a profit. Maybe even double your money. Then you'd have over $3k to move up...

I'd give you a little more slack with it if it was a hardtop. But the posts just don't do it for me...

Lose the handles, replace the missing chrome and that jetplane looking thing, lower it and a set of wheels and tyres.

You could maybe try the "poor mans pillarless" with a can of black paint.

    matt,

whereabouts in jersey do you live?

anyway, i love giving people advise.
    i also love cheap cars.
here's a quick way to spend your money:

    1. replace the missing chrome
    2. gloss black rattle can on the rims
    3. poverty caps or baby moons
    4. new skinny whites
    5. cheap gloss white paint job w/ contrasting roof
    6. snip the coils and rake it
    7. nothing fancy exhaust (duals only if eight)
    8. cheap stock replacement carpet and seat covers

it'll set you back more than $1000 to do the above list. welcome to an expensive hobby! also, if you don't really like the car, sell it right now and save up to buy the car you actually want. old cars are money pits; you're just throwing money away if you plan to "trade up" in a few years.

You asked "If you had this car and $1000...." I do not like 4 dr sedans, so I would sell it. I was just answering your question. I would then take the money and buy a 2dr something. If you like it, go for it. If we all liked the same things life would be very boring. Not dissing your ride, just my opinion.

Cut the springs and get some chrome reverse wheel with white walls, thin whites to save money. Then with cash left over I would by a good paint gun and paint it my self.
