    Oh boy.....hahaha!
    Whatcha planning there Steve????
There were some pretty bitchin' hotrods built back in the late 50's runnin' hydro's....
I think one was Chet Herberts?, as he was in a wheelchair.....
And I'd say Piero's car is definitely a HOT ROD......

I have a *cough* TH400 in my lil' PU, but my next project will have three pedals...

4 speed cars are much more fun to drive and sure seem quicker.....

My Granpa's T Model had three pedals. It was no hotrod.
I challenge any "hotrodder" to shift as fast as a built automatic.

What a relief! Why just today I was worrying that we might run out of pointless things to argue about around here....

  7. I LOVE 3 pedals, but for practicality & daily driving (specially round here where you & I both live Steve) I'm happy with my Hydamatic...

Growing up around all my dads friends and all of them with stick shift cars on the street and strip,I found it strange to start seeing "Automatic Equipped" painted on the sides of drag cars.

If the main thrust of hot rodding is to build/use your car as an extention of your wants and needs the subject does not need to be debated. Just another waste of space and no concensus in site. When I started in the late 50's it was a topic of discussion so..................use your imagination.

  18. Yea
Lotsa slush boxes used as soon as they started makin' 'em work right.

I used to think I had to have a stick but I've paid my dues.

If mashin' a clutch makes you happy then stab 'n' grin I guess.

Hope there is room for more than one on that fence.

I like to row the gears as well as the next guy but being one of the "older" guys my knees and legs don't want to handle a big clutch anymore.

  20. Ha ha ha Ronnie Sox gets more discussion than 2v3 pedels. Yes, he sure could row that 4 speed.

HMMMM... This question is like trying to ponder, "Is it better to have the dimmer switch on the floor, or on a little lever on the steering column".:D

I read once the Jim Hall Chaparals ran 2 speed autos for a long time. And they had mercury switches in the tail light circuits to make those chasing them think they were braking and downshifting like 3-pedal cars. Worked for them. On the other hand... must be fun to have a hot high tech ride, like a world rally car with AWD, turbo, and paddle shifters on their manual boxes! Gary

Sure ya can't beat an automatic for changing gears and ya sure won't outshift a good one but there's something very cool about slammin gears and leaving almost no space between them when the tires are spinnin and smokin.Enough said, and I love my M-22

I kind of like my Hurst equipped four speed.

  25. Not only DID I prefer 3 pedals, (I have 3 in my Nova and Packard) I also preferred 2 stick shifts in my trucks. But as others have mentioned, age has creped up with me and though I still enjoy a four gear, an auto is so much easier in our stop and go traffic where I live. Time has a tendency of changing one's POV.

Stick in the hot rod, about to pick up a daily with a stick in it again, and plans for the "custom" are a 5-speed. Auto's are easy to drive and cruise in, but you can't beat the fun of shifting gears.

  28. You can't beat the fun of shifting gears though I admit in Southern California's traffic it's nice to have an auto...my Rivi is an auto, my 54 plymouth wagon is an auto but my 54 dodge panel is a 3 on the tree and plans for my 37 international are for a 3 speed on the floor or maybe a t5...kinda depends on the car too...roadsters ya gotta be jammin' gears but a clean custom maybe smooth sailing in an auto...no right answer to this one...just personal preferences...though one of my best selling tee shirts says, "real hotrods have 3 pedals"...

Hey my hot rod only has 2 pedals! So cut me some slack until I get the throttle pedal installed :)

I vote for 2 pedals and a hand throttle.
    I'll steer with my teeth
