My buddy has a row of mid 60's Lincolns waiting for their demo appearance. He buys these cars on the open market for 3 or 4 hundred bucks each. In other words, anyone who wanted to "save" one could have stepped up with the cash. Keep in mind that the smart derby guys save a lot of the good parts for a little extra revenue. The crusher saves nothing.

By the way, this guy picked up $3000 in winnings at the local county fair this year.

Man! As a kid I wanted one of those so bad!
I just used my brothers models...they broke the same way.
I would have sore limbs for days from all the charlie horses.
HaHa! Charlie horses! does anybody get/give those anymore??
Seems like a thing of the past, like indian rug burn.

  4. I had that smash up derby set when I was a kid! The rip cords kept breaking on me.

  5. I actually have a set of those now, a VW bug and a Chevy Blazer with the top off the back. When I was little the one I wanted in the JC Penney catalog was two Nomads, either '55s or '57s -

LOL, I didn't need that derby set when I was a kid. I just took a hammer to smash up my toy cars and trucks just like my dad did when he derbied.:D:D But I quickly stopped that when my mom found out and I didn't get any new toys for a while!

He was pretty successful in his day and has a room full of trophies to show it. He did a lot of derbying in the 60's and 70's and his favorite car of choice was the 56-57 Lincolns with a well worn 292 Y-block stuck in ther.

  7. man thats all them things are good for.....aint it burns?

  8. They are about the same as Imperials in my book, unless you can find a REAL nice original, it will cost you way more than it's worth to get all the electric windows, seats, ect. working again. But, to each his own, I would love to have a nice suicide driver, or 58-60, I love lincolns. The only ones I have ever owned, although, were just nice enough to wreck. I'm looking to wreck a 67 Shelby Mustang, if anyone knows where any are at. Ha ha. Throw a big block Mopar in one, crater it in one hit, then watch all the muscle car fruits ball about it. **** Eleanor.

Don't be embarrased, that car is still around and runs like a top. I loaded it on a trailer 3 weeks ago. We gave it more love than anybody else would have. That car was junk/rusty to begin with. Especially with the S-10 Blazer on the roof. Just wait till you see what the drivetrain from that Merc is going in for next year...

I used to check a demo-car forum looking for stuff to save. They had a poll a**** derby drivers on the best car to run, winner was early 70's Electras, supposedly indestructible.

Now, when one of these cars are smashed doesn't that make yours worth more? Really, you can't save them all. Be reasonable, at least they went out entertaining some people instead of rotting in some hoarders yard until they die and the junkyard crushes them.

In the 90's I used to run. I'd only use '75 or '76 Chevy wagons, but a guy I knew ran a '59 Imperial that had a stainless steel roof and a factory faux continental kit on the trunk lid. It was a sharp car in it's day. I don't condone running cars like that, but most of these cars are just taking a side step before going into the crusher anyway.

I'm a demo derby guy. You can either love us or hate us, I don't care. But you have to remember, we love cars just as much as you traditional hot-rod guys. I hate to see cl***ics go to the derby as well, but you can't save them all.

We try to save all the cars we can from going to the crusher first and foremost. Those that are worthy of restoration are sold to those that need them. The ones that aren't collectable but worthy of the derby are going to get one last change at glory. If the body is too rusty for even the derby, then we'll save what we can and crush the rest.

Where do you think alot of these Mopar E-body nuts are getting their 440s?

So without futher delay, let's look at some demo derby pics that make even me sad.

  20. Buddy of mine has one for sale, too, fresh out of the barn it's been in for like 30 years. It's not great but it's not a piece of ****, it's all there. Have run it on Craigslist several times, a few guys have looked at it... still there. May go directly to the s****per and not to a demo derby.

  26. Last year there was a local kid that used a 2-door 66 Dodge Coronet, looked to be in definitely decent, fairly straight shape until he got his dumb*** trailer trash hands on it with his trash friends. Some people should be castrated.

Hey, a lot of us did that stuff in our "yooot". In 1966 I was working at a Texaco station and a guy abandoned a 1954 Lincoln Capri 2dr. hardtop at the station. He thought it had a burned valve, but I figured out that the spark plug wires were crossed.
6 months later it was still there so we gutted the car welded the doors closed and took it to the demo derby.

man, what I'd give to have that car now. No wonder they say"youth is wasted on the young".

I've derbied for about 14 teen years now. I'm not saying its right but its just something I like to do.My cars of choice are mid 70s GM's. I also just started using 79-96 ford, lin. mercs. I have personally killed a suicide Lincoln. These cars are nasty as hell if built right. That what makes guys use them.
