Seems like a steal to me but what do I know, I don't even like taildraggers that much. Seems like a car appraised at 200,000 should bring 200,000 http://www.carsforsale.com/used_cars_for_sale/1951_Mercury_Joe+Candy+Apple+Bailon_84976868_7
no way would it bring $200k.. you can get anyone to write an appraisal for what you want if u know how to bs, create values, etc... most guys have no idea on appraising customs asking price is too steep to me
A friend and I were just discussing this. A mutual friend has a custom for sale that he built. He just turned down $165,000, he's asking $200,000, it sort of blew us away to hear that he turned that down, but then we don't really know the "filthy rich". I mean, it's they who buy Zimmers and other overpriced **** like that, so it really shouldn't surprise us that they'll pay big money for a car like that. Money can't buy good taste.
I like the color but the car is **** ugly! I guess after building God knows how many Mercs in your life you start to run out of ideas of how a radical custom is supposed to look like.
FIrst I have to say, I think the price is inflated because of the guy who built it, even though I have never heard of him, he thinks he will impress someone with the fact that the guy invented candy paint. Second, if anyone wanted to sell a car that expensive, It would seem to me that Bare*** and Jack*** would be the place to take it. Lastly, I just don't get the reasoning behind paying that much for a car, it would be destined to be in a museum, in a barn, or worse yet.....A trailer queen. If your gonna build a hotrod, drive the damn thing! JMO
Would have to say,,can't fathom building a car thinking I'd get $200k for it,,thats just crazy as how many people really have that money to spend on a toy? The other thing that gets me is when you hear people who sell these cars say " i've got more than that into it" I would have to ask,,'at some point did'nt you step back and ask yerself WTF am i thinking?" It is nice work ,,the taste well thats up to those interested in it ,,but hell $200k ?? thats a house !
Certainly not my cup of tea. I think a lot of the legends from the old days, and Joe Bailon is certainly one of the best, ran out of ideas trying to one up each other and themselves as time went on. They are asking $130,000.00 for the car - could you have it built for that, to that level? Not likely. Will it be worth more in the future? maybe. Will someone buy it? probably. Is it ugly? In my book, yeah. But I'm sure some people will like it.
the only reason he's asking so much is because joe bailon built it... not one of his better efforts, in my opinion,,, his early stuff was tastefully done, but the later stuff with all the scoops and weird multi tube bumpers don't do a thing for me,,,,someone will probably buy it though,, btw,,that mural looks hideous..............
you have to also consider the car is being sold by a consignment house and they are going to make their money over what the owner wants. sometimes it is better to sell it for yourself.
The car's not my cup of tea style wise and looks under engineered (hey, let's just hang a Wal-Mart DVD player under the dash ), but the ad suggesting any car be bought as a "retirement investment" is the most annoying part.
