Phew! A few heart stopping moments there.
So what causes a spin at those high speeds? Is it just a case of the rear wheels trying to overtake the front with all the power being put down or something else?

Bruce, thanks for the videos. They were exciting to see. I especially liked the clip of the guy riding the bike with the side car. Its hard to figure out what happened there and, I'm sure, the rider is thinking the same thing when he is standing there looking at his bike after the spill!

Incidentally, do you remember Ron Richardson? He is heading for Bonneville on Sept. 11 for the USFRA meet. He built a belly tanker over the last threee years and will be racing it there. He's hoping to go 200MPH. He's already done 196 MPH at Maxton. We'll be watching...

Conventional wisdom is that if the rear tires are not near exactly alike on rool out the car will be prone to spin. This I have seen myself. Some say that if the car reaches top speed to soon and stops accelreating it is prone to a change on the center of pressure and may spin. I don't know about that. To happy a foot on the gas will do it for sure. Most of those spins were at El Mirage. Which can be bumpy. On time I hit a bump at about the mile. The car started to drift left, so I added some right pressure on the steering wheel. Still going left. More right pressure. I'm going to run over the lights! Off the gas. Round we go.

All of what Rich said and not enough weight IMO.
Oh ya and notice Rich said "pressure" to the right on the steering wheel. You almost have to "wish it" the direction you want to go because if your turning the wheel you'll be chas'in it, then you get a 360* panoramic view. And don't forget the throttle pedal works both ways...........

Mike; Bob Dalton called yesterday. Said he was putting a midget moter in his 'liner and was going to run it again. I said "Heard that plenty of times over the years" Bob used you as a witness of sorts. Think it's true?
