My wife goes Monday for results of seven, yes seven biopsies of her colon. I am a nervous wreck, damn doctors make you wait 2-3 weeks without a word. Troubling, lost a cousin at 23 to colon cancer. Went very quick, not fun to watch at all. God bless.

My Mom when I was 6. She was just 39. Lung cancer - smoked.
Her Brother Ray, Lung cancer - 46 - smoked
Her Sister Mae (twin to Ray) - survived it twice (uterus and breast) and still with us, now 68.
Her Dad survived lung cancer in 59 only to die from an ulcer in 70 - 73 years
Her Mom died in 02 from Lung cancer and never smoked. - 97 years
    Dad's side.
His Mom died with cancer in the lymph glands. - 69 years
Most of his side is heart disease.
He was scared of having cancer after watching my Mom with it. Heart disease got him at 69 and died at 72.

    Think I'll retire early

  6. I've lost so many friends that I won't name them. I've been lucky enough to live 55 years without medical problems. I guess God has kept me around for pall bearer duty. This is a bad subject for a hotrod forum. We're all touched by this. Let's get back to fun stuff.

    Hi Everyone,
Yes, cancer is one damn nasty disease. I lost my finacee Theresa Weber of Kansas City on Valentines Day 2005 to pancreatic cancer. I have her RX-7 out in my garage and it reminds me everyday of what I lost and how much I loved her. She loved working on her "old red tin can", as she called it...

Please support cancer research and remember all the wonderful folks you have lost. I give monthly to St. Judes, and support the Cancer Walks. And support the Pancreatic Cancer Network, and the Livestrong Foundation. I expect cancer to get me someday, as a lot in my family. No insurance until I get on Medicare, as if one even has high blood pressure or high cholestrol , even under control with meds, NO ONE will insure you in this state... SUCKS!

Enjoy all the special people in your life and cherish each day as it was the last one... May the Good Lord Bless you all... duane

Stay tough man, my prayers are with you.

I lost my mom this past February to Breast Cancer that metastasized to her liver. It was a very horrible experience to see her suffer the way she did. She was loved and will be missed.

My prayers go out to all who have lost and to all that are suffering.

In January of 1995 I was Diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma,I was 23.

I had been going to the doctor for FOUR months prior to that with a persistant cough and a lump below my right ear that was the size of a grape and one under my arm the size of a lemon(Found out later I also had one in my chest pressing on my lungs). Doctor said I had "Cat scratch" disease. He gave me antibiotics and sent me on my way. I had no insurance and no money to pay for tests. Four months of several different antibiotics and lumps getting bigger I was getting worse. Finally the last week of December 1994 I had to go stay with my mom I was no longer able to get out of bed. I thought I was too good to go to the county hospital with the "poor" people. December 31 1994 I went into the emergency room at Parkland Memorial hospital in Dallas with a high grade fever, severly dehydrated, and had not been able to eat for three days. Within two hours of my admission to the hospital the med students already had a good idea what I had. Within two days it was confirmed. After about nine months of chemo it was gone. I owe my life to those doctors and med students that were barely older than me.

I've got insurance now but they are real chicken-shit about what they will and will not cover.

    Early detection is crucial!!!!!!

Lost my brother, combination of MS and Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, I have uncle that battled cancer and won.

Anyone that has cancer and anyone fights cancer with chemotherapy is a hero in my eyes. What a brutal disease and brutal process for a cure.

  18. Thanks to everyone for sharing
I have read thru all the posts so far and I have learned a lot
CANCER can't hide if we all stand up to it
It was not long ago that POLIO claimed many lives in this country and left many other people crippled for life
    We found a vaccine :D
SOMEDAY we will cure cancer and it will be remembered as something from the past - like polio
Until then - let us all keep those we have lost and those who are still fighting in our hearts, our thoughts, our prayers
Donate something please - whether it is your money or your time :)
THANK YOU all for sharing :)

  19. My Dad's brother, from Mesothelioma. It's usely caused by exposure to asbestos... But they think he got it from working years in the iron ore mines, here in northeastern Minnesota. There's a bunch of other area miners that got the same thing. The state just started a study to try and find the cause of Mesothelioma in taconite mine workers.

Cancer got both grandparents on my dad's side and two uncles. Two aunts have survied it, and now my dad is currently going through treatment in houston at md anderson for a tumor in the abdomen that when he is finished with the radiation and chemo, he will undergo an 8-10 hour operation called the Whipple procedure to ensure the tumor is gone.

My grandfather, who was the most honest, upstanding, talented, smartest individual I've ever had the privilage to know. The only vice he had was smoking and it was the cause of his demise at 72 years old.
My mom is a cancer survivor (over 30 years) from breast cancer.
Just this last week a prescreening exam to have my knees replaced uncovered a blocked artery and the possibility of Prostate cancer. Just came home from getting 3 stents to take care of the blockage and a biopsy will confirm or rule out the cancer. We'll see.

Thank you HAMBers for this and the many private messages.
My brother had Melanoma and was sick for a year but fought it well, still riding his new Goldwing around Calgary with frequent trips to the mountains. He would ride his motorcycle to Chemo after working 8 hours, He said it was because then he didn't have to pay for motorcycle parking at the hospital but I think it was because he loved to ride. He and his wife rode to Bragg Creek (real Alberta Cowboy country) with friends on August 17 and on August 24 took his wife for a ride by themselves. When they got back he put the bike away as if for winter because he said it would be the last time.
5 days later he was in a coma that he never came out of.
His wife, mother, and 3 sons were at his side at the very end.
    Thanks again for your support
    Gord
