A guy on the chevy truck site I go to got this 61 chevy truck with the pictured hood ornament, the owner told him that it was a rare flying apache hood ornament. It looks like some sort of dodge ram piece to me. anyone here recognise it?
That is 100% a Dodge hood ornament, even the Dodge cars used the ram as an ornament in the 40's and early 50's. A rare "Flying Apache". That's a good one, haven't heard it before. Kinda like a friend of mine who swore up and down that the tail light lenses on his '36 Plymouth were shaped like a ship's wheel because the Plymouth logo was a ship and they were all original. He changed his mind when one came off and I found him a replacement at the junk yard, still attatched to the '62 Corvair it came on.
Dodge...my uncle has a shit load of those hood ornaments.....most off @ '48.... Does it also got a Hemi? haha!
I never seen no apache with horn's............I think the chevy site dude is so full of shit he's confusing an indian with a billygoat.
when in doubt, use google http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=1948+dodge+hood+ornament&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=1
I saw this truck or one exactly the same for sale a few weeks ago on Denver Craig's list for $1900. In fact it's still listed http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/798008065.html
Wow, read that listing. "The hood ornament is considered priceless. It it is the flying apache. It is fully original and almost impossible to find. Supposidly there were only a few hundred placed on the fleetside versions of the truck." I'd like to know who told the guy this story. If he really believes it, let him know I can provide him with a few more of those ornaments "for the right price"
Yes thats the same truck.. the guy picked it up and drove it 12 hours back to kansas! Those last 2 shots are too funny!! I kept trying to picture a flying indian..... btw thanks for that hint squirrel I have been playing with the google images for a few minutes now -pretty cool!
Trouble with posting a piece of erroneous information - or outright lie - is no one will believe anything else about it. Kinda like the old fart of 38 or so at the skating rink who told everyone his custom built skates weighed 20# each, but wouldn't allow anyone to pick one up. As in, "I don't allow anyone to handle my skates." We were 14 at the time, but we knew a bullshit artist when we heard one and pretty much wrote him off. He was a weird mofo and was probably just there to see and perhaps skate with the teenage girls who frequented the rink on Friday and Saturday nights. He didn't last long after a few moms started bringing the dads along for the evening. Nothing quite like seeing a line of good ol' boys from the oil fields giving you the evil eye....
I used to have one of those Flying Apache ornaments but I took it off and tossed it out the window.....................it kind of upset this guy:
