Oh man, I dont know what to say! Its so hard to look at your baby sitting there like that. I think the HAMB should have a Tfeverfred weekend to get this back together! Hope your feeling better mate. Doc
Yeah, man. That you walked away from it (albeit after a little delay) is a solid testament to your building skills.
Glad you are ok! I haven't read the other thread about the accident, do you think the car would be in better shape if you had an I beam axle and steel front wheels?
Raw deal Fred. You seemed O.K. yesterday, but remember what I told you, back and neck injuries can creep up on you. I've been suffering from a wreck I had almost twenty years ago, although much more serious. As for the car, you built it, you can re-build it. Your insurance will pay if they don't.
damn Fred those pics look bad. glad to see you posting. I think when you rebuild it you should name the car: "T-Boned" let me know when your ready to start rebuilding.
Missed the Dark Horse yesterday, so I didn't get the chance to give my regards. Keep the faith, baby!!!!!!!!!!!
Fred, As several have said, the car can be rebuilt. I am so very glad that you are O.K. Looking forward to pictures of your first cruise in the refurbished T-Bucket ! 41 Dave
Looks like it was a glancing blow, otherwise we might not have you around. Here's hoping momma isn't giving you hell about it too, you know how civilian-wives are. What happened to the seats? You throw them at the cops?
You're very lucky physically. I suspect the damage amount will be large, well in excess of 10k at a mid range shop, +20 would not suprise me. That's a real nice bucket, but it's probably time to consider if you wanted to leverage into something more expensive than a bucket. Not saying get rid of the bucket, just saying you have a moment in life where it may be possible to step into something different you've dreamed of, if the cards play right. The cold cash you're handed for labor that you can do at home, combined with a weak economy tugging at vintage car prices.........you're not entirely in a bad spot. Good luck man.
Glad your alright... car's can be replaced, fixed and rebuilt... HAMB'ers can not. The more I see stuff like this the more convinced I am to build a car that can take a hit if need be and I and my wife or daughter will walk away from... or at least live. It's not my own driving I'm concerned with... it's all the other shit-for-brains out there on the roadways... including the "Law". Would you consider doing something like this in the future? Especially seeing how you've been through it? Frontal impacts are one thing... I can't even imagine what it would be like to get hit in the side... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2861961#post2861961
He was telling us about the accident yesterday before you got there. He came out of the seat, got caught up in the steering wheel, and came back down. Meanwhile, the seat back flew out into the intersection. Or something like that. Probably a good thing he's so tall; his lanky frame tangeld him up, keeping him from going airborn.
Glad you're OK Fred. Prolly not a good idea for you and Chevygirlrox (Megan) to go for a T bucket ride together...
Be real thankful that the steering wheel stopped your progression to the concrete in front of you. Otherwise you might not be here to rebuild your T. Sorry it had to happen, but there are hundreds of lazy and lousy drivers out there all of whom seem to be gunning for hotrods and cycles. Overall the pictures look like it will take some work but you should have it back on the road in a short while.
Just another "Glad you're OK" comment, but we mean it. Hope any healing you have to do is easy and quick!
I have a 283 in the garage you can have if you can pick it up or ship it from Indiana. Glad to see you are OK. I wish I were closer, I'd give you a hand getting it back up and going.
I suxs that happened, but like the rest of the guys are saying.. you came out ok.. you will get it back on the road no matter what, it will just take time... dont worry man, it will work out..
Wow, way too many people joining the Wrecked Rod Club lately. Welcome to the club and very glad to hear you're ok. And please, for your sake, hire an attorney NOW! I'm still getting jacked around on my crash. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=275101
I hate seeing and hearing about these rods getting crashed and the troubles they have fighting insurance companies. Im glad all so far have been able to live to tell their stories because they could have been much worse but the fighting afterwards to get your hard earned money and labor back into shape is tough.
Well, here's an update. I got a call this morning from my Insurance company. CHROME Insurance. Seems the local agent didn't check a box on my paperwork and I don't have collision coverage. Bottomline, I'm not getting any money from insurance to fix my car. I cursed and yelled and all my agent could do was ay how sorry he was. He says he's going to make some more phone calls, but I'm not hopeful. The insurance company says thy have to go by what was submitted. Lesson of the day: READ AND UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU SIGN YOUR NAME TO. It may not be what you wanted or need. On a positive note, I had a meeting with a good attorney who was recommended to me and he was VERY hopeful in getting a settlement. He'll know more when he gets the accident report filed by the police. He's a car guy and made me feel a little better about things, but he also mentioned that the city of Houston pays slow. I wonder how quick they would want to get paid, if the accident had been my fault? He also had an interest in how my insurance company screwed me. He thinks he may be able to do something about that too. Not money wise, just filing a formal complaint and getting them fined. I went and saw my doctor and got more xrays. He's concentrating on seeing if my injuries will have any long term effects. I woke up this morning and like a few people said, I was a little stiff in my knees. Not bad, but enough to get my attention. So, tomorrow, I'm having my car towed to my job from the storage lot. A friend who is a wrecker driver is going to help me with the storage and wrecker fees. My budget is going to be smaller than when I first built her, but I'll just do it like I did before, one piece at a time. I want to thank everyone for the offers to help out and when I find out what the damages are and compile a list, I'll get in touch. My target date for completing the redo is Round Up 2009. I'll be drivin' her there. I've met a few cheats, liars and jerks the last few days. I've lost some respect for those who say they protect and serve, but I've also learned I have a lot of good friends out there and that is a great comfort. Hot Rodders are truly a breed above all others. Thanks again.
