For me it is about an 8 hour drive, and I have not gone there in over a decade. Is it still huge, or has the internet killed it too?
We went last year. No it's not as big BUT it is still wonderful. We hung out with friends old and new and got items that you just don't find everyday even on Ebay. AND got Crab pretzel YUMMMMMM
Well worth the trip, you get to see the parts up close and personal no surprises. Yes it has changed a little, but still worth the trip. I usually sell in the car corral and you never know what shows up there or who is buying. Sold a pickup two years ago to 3 aussies, they where there on a buying spree. To me the car show is worth every penny just to see vintage vechiles.
I have two eye witnesses that saw a Roof head sold for $40 last year. they didn't think I needed it. This year GM and Ford will have special displays.
Hershey is still well worth going to Carlisle on the other hand isn't. IMHO I havn't been to Carlisle in 4 years and I'm only 30 miles away. Hershey doesn't cost anything to get into just pay for parking. i just have my wife drive by slowly (35 MPH) and I jump out the car. I guess living 2 miles from this huge swapmeet is a trade off for dealing with all those asshole NY and NJ tourists all summer.
no. leave the good stuff for us. go to carlisle to buy some cheap imported tools. and maybe a lawnmower.
stay home so i can get caddy flathead heads made by edmunds for 800 bux that are ready to go on .!!!!!!!!!!
I'll be there. I went last year for the 1st time in a dozen years. Pretty big. Saw everything you can imagine and didn't see enough to satisfy. Drove around in this: Leaving the Tuesday before and might be driving around in a Reo Royale. Check the car corral. As we get closer to the gig maybe a rebel meeting would be in order. Highmeadow Campground right by the road. Perfect beer spot. Watch the cars. Tell lies. Many of the lifetime vendors never heard of ebay or the 'net or if they have they ignore it.
what is the date ??? and what are everybodys space numbers ? so i can come and look at what you have for sale . can you camp ??
Hershey will never have the magic of the first year I went there in 1969, but I haven't missed a year since. To be honest I'm a bit depressed about this year, no good stuff to sell, and few bucks to spend.........also not really in need of anything. Stop by and say hello, and HAMB members can always leave parts in my spot to save a trip to their car during the day. C4J-41-42, last space on the left of Main Street in the Chocolate Field. Brookville trailer is behind me, good food vendor across the isle.
Actually, I won't be going this year for the first time since 1980. Haven't found much in the last couple of years and it appeared to me that the emphasis & parts being sold are reverting more and more to the early brass - late-20's cars and my interest isn't with them. Maybe it's just the fact I've been going so long and have stock-piled enough parts and have enough tools to last well past my remaining years.
I just went to a swap meet today. Found 3 things I needed that I couldn't find anywhere on ebay. Also they were a 1/4 the price of catalog and ebay buys.
After reading the crap from Rat's-life about B-ville I'm declaring Friday of Hershey Bobby Green day. If you don't have a BG shirt get one or at least wear a HAMBer shirt. As soon as I get my flea market stickers I'll start a HAMB and Chocolate thread for all the space numbers. We'll have a real meet Friday 11:00 at the N.W. corner of the stadium, where the pit for race cars is.
greatest show on earth and swap meet on earth! i go every year have spaces gcj 50- 52. i also stay at hershey campground site 36.
hershey is a good meet to find parts , just dont take a wrong turn and end up on the hershey highway ,
Best show going-excellent cars, the biggest swap meet I know of,free auction, and free admission. Why would you not go?
Make sure to get over to the stadium on Friday morning. They have the restored racers do a lap. It's worth it for the sounds alone!
Alright, you guys convinced me. I am going to start planning the trip. Looks like I have to get a HAMB shirt, and I"ll get to meet some of you guys in person.
Gotta admit- I missed the mud the last time I went (used to see people lose boots in the deep stuff).
GRASSHOPPER...if you question the importance of such a ritual...you are going for the wrong reasons.... I wouldn't miss it for my own wedding...CADILLAC DAVE
anybody got any spare spots open? trying to find too together in a good field if somebody has them and are not going please send me a pm thanks
Man, I am TOTALLY FIRED UP!!!!!!! Looks like brad54 and I (and possibly another GA HAMBer) will be heading up on Thursday afternoon. I was telling Brad that I miss this meet like an old friend- this was a father/son event (translate as acceptable reason to skip school) since I was little. This will be the first time I go without my father (pinched nerve from slipping in the garage has sidelined him for the last year), but it'll still be an awesome time. Bluto- are you going this year???
