No getting around it. It is ugly. So ugly infact that I kinda like it.

Let's see... Paint the wheels red, some mexican blankets.... Nope, nevermind. :p

And it probably got a "Golden Hammer" award to boot.

Pretty sure that one is a home built attempt to for the guy who built it to have his own sports car.

If you get into the Popular Mechanics magazines out of the 50's there were often articles on building your own fiberglass bodied sports car out of a production car. 52/54 Fords seemed to donate their chassis to those projects quite often for some reason.

Break out the Sawzall - its too tall in the body, that roof must die and the headlamps and grill are a bit off. 40 chev lights may work. It starts to look ok.

James, that actually dont look bad... I'm thinking it could use a tall grill-shell. That goofy over-bite looking grill that's in there now just dont do it for me.

Yes, the grille definitely still needs help! Just need to be careful that it doesn´t end up looking like some bad Jag XK120 kit car though.

Add an MG strly grille and some chrome headlight pods, and it might actually make a killer Ceuella DeVille car!!!!!!

    Flynstone-
You got that from the L.A. area, right???

No one on here remembers a crazy neighbor building this thing? A crazy Uncle with a fiberglass and Hudson obsession?

Yeah, it's pretty ugly but it sure would be nice to hear a few less smartass opinions and a little history on the thing. I wonder if it was actually ever on the road?

There is a reason you have good ventilation when working with resin. Too bad that guy didn't have the windows open!

I would leave it l;ike it is paint it and have something totally different. the only thing that would help a lot is a mercedes grill. the grill sucks. if it is one of the popular science homebuilt projects thats pretty neat. how many of them actually got done? and survived? name it Ugly Betty

If I read your initial entry correctly, you say the license number is "ONEOFF"?? That would be fairly easy to trace. CA has had personalized plates a long time, but seems someone should be able to track that back to the "plastic master" who originally assembled/built/threw together this fine example of American ingenuity. I agree with those that are opining that it was likely a "see pg 23" project from the early 50s Popular Mechanics.

"if you dont' what that is, why are you sticking your finger in it?"

Man, now there is an improvement. The roof really helped it out. A little more clean up and the thing would be rather sharp. I would try to change it as little as possible, just some subtle stuff, so it keeps its original character, but it looks more like a professional coach build.
