Colorado YOM plates can now be used on cars and trucks at least 30 years old or older. Cutoff used to be 1942. Checked this out with local DMV, you need a PAIR of YOM plates in good shape to qualify. Here's the 1929 truck plate I use on my CCPU with an "antiqued" Telluride topper. I'm also looking for a pair of 1946 plates and I have a nice pair of 1948 Colorado plates.

I just picked up a set of NOS, still in the DMV original sleeve, 1963 plates for my Cadillac. I've already got YOM plates registered for my 55,57 and 67. I'm so glad Colorado finally saw the light.

Here's another trick. If your car is over 50 years old, register it as a "horseless carriage" instead of a "collector car". There is no emissions test, and may be less h***le. The plate stays under the seat anyway.

Actually if you take only ONE good plate in, they don't ask to see the second...and I've been running all my cars without a front plate for over 20 years...never once got pulled over...

WHY would you want to run "Horseless Carriage" plates...??? IF you run "Collector Series" you only need to do an emissions ONCE and those plates are good for 5 years at a time, as long as you own the car..."Horseless Carriage" plates are waaaa-aaaaaaay old school...

You can also get "Street Rod" plates, any car up to (and including) 1948 can be plated as a street rod...whether it is or not....and THOSE do not need emissions tests...but you need to renew every year.

You don't run them. I'm saying, if you are buying or building a hot rod and have to buy plates first. No one is going to see them. Be nice or I'm going to have my police friends start h***ling you about front plates. Then, you will have (circa 2008) stories for Bangin the gears aka How Roger got new points against his driving record, by doing nothing.

Where have you guys been anyway? I keep missing you at the stuff we go to. Are you going to Fort Morgan or the Colfax cruise?

Yeah I am running the 1950 colorado plates on my merc. Oh yeah and I'm 99% sure that in 1946 they only put out singles and not pairs. Also for the year of manufacturer plate for cars up to 1948 the state only requires one plate. for the newers cars you need a pair of plates. But hell yeah they look way better than the new plates.

Are your "police friends" the same as mine...??? If so, I have nothing to worry about...

Lemmee see, last weekend we were in North Platte, NE for their event...about 250 cars there...the week before that we went to Paint' N' Primer...about 100 cars there...the week before that we were in Joplin, Missouri for the HAMB drags...about 300 cars there...can you say "Wow, you guys do a lot of traveling"...??? And I'd say: "Yes, we do..."

But now it's time to stay home and work in the '55 Caddy...bodywork has commenced already...the rear quarter creases have been pulled out already and the old paint is already starting to "fall off."

No, won't be going to F.M. but we'll do the Colfax Cruise...C YA there...

So, Dave, been busy on the '32 3-window coop...???

My next door neighbor bought a '58 Caddy limo at an auction, and the interior of the car was filled with boxes of NOS 1932 Colorado plates. There has to be thousands of plates in there as the trunk is filled also. He does not want to sell any of them, because he thinks it is illegal.

Absolutely nothing ILLEGAL about it...there are plenty of sellers around here that bring their boxes full of old plates (and even many from other states) to swap meets and events to sell...

Tell your pal he's not thinking with a right mind to NOT sell those plates...the money he can make off those plates will PAY for his Caddy...!!!

Yeah I agree that is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Has he ever been to a swapmeet? Guess he was born yesterday and doesn't know any better. I think a good set of 32 plates goes for a C note or so. He could have plenty of plates to pay for his car and then some.

Cool, i thought you had to have 2 plates, i only have one for my 36 and was having a heck of a time finding a pair of them. I have been pulled over for no front plate on a RX7 i had in Pueblo of course drove it for 6 months with no problems and the day i was taking it to the auction to get rid of it i got pulled over, i had the plate under the seat and the car had no place to mount a front plate but the trooper still wrote me a warning.

The dmv in each county has nothing to do with this registration. You work with the State Dept of Motor Vehicles ( In Lakewood) after you have your cl***ic plates.
