Hey there everyone. I'm looking to get started on my first solo project. I've always worked with my dad but he was killed in a motorcycle accident several years back. I have recently aquired his old Chevy van. And I want to turn it in to a rolling work of art... The only problem I'm having is finding parts for it. I did recently find some rocker pannels but i'm gonna need alot more. The body is where I want to start so any helpful links would be greatly appriciated. Also I would love to talk to any one that is working on or completed a van project.
Welcome from Parkville. What part of the state are you? Also there is a Maryland HAMBster group...join !!
Click on "Manage Your Account" at top of this page, then click on "social groups" in left column of page that comes up. Maryland HAMBers should be on first of many pages of groups. Oh, Welcome.
Here's the link to the Maryland Hamb group. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=135 And welcome from another Marylander.
My cousin has a 65 or 66 Chevy van he did quite a while back. I would suggest avoiding the shag carpet and the mirroed ceiling! The search function on here should come up with quite a bit of reference material on doing the work even if it's not on an identical van.
O.K. R.C., I can see ditchin' the shag carpet, but a girl could sure have some fun with a mirrored ceiling. Just please don't put a disco ball up there!!!.....Don.
no disco ball or shag, thinkin i would like an all wood floor, like old truck beds. plan on painting it to match my 76 shovel. my dad used to use it to haul around bikes so might as well continue. i kinda like the mirrored ceiling idea though..... was also thinking of doing something trick with the rear doors, like having the hinges on the bottom, open up like a trailer, just have to remove the windows.
Welcome, sorry to hear about your Dad, but he would probably be proud knowing that you are gonna tackle this project...welcome to the HAMB
Wow a girl that likes old cars. Don't get no better. I've always wanted a Mystery Machine. And a dog named Scoob. Welcome
