In California, is it illegal to own old road signs?

  1. Shure You are constitutionally protected against unlafully search and seizure, Ex post facto laws and ordinances ect. Having said that you have to be able to afford it. there are lots of people that are dispossed and fined when they were in the right they didnt have a good enough lawer. Everything in life is a trade off . I would like to see some law officer try to arrest me for my sighn:D:D( the one in my avitar) I dont have a reciept for it it was a birthday gift from my son who is a lawyer:eek: .Some times it is better for people to be afraid of you because they suspect you might be dangerious or crazy nuts or both:eek:OldWolf

Crap, what am I going to make floorboards out of now.
Seriously I would march down to the sherriffs office and get the skinney, not one dickweed cops opinion. Maybe find some evidence that old signs are disposed of at auction and stealing isn't the only way to aquire them.
I was at a county auction and they sold piles of that stuff. Ironically though, all license plates were sliced in half.

It sounds to me like since the chop shop thing fell apart they had to hassle you about something. I wouldn't think they would leave the donut shop to retrieve a few road signs.

  5. This sounds like what I have run into with building inspectors. They are going to find something wrong thats their job. I ussually do something like put an outlet in upside down or something simple to fix yet blatant for him to see. They bitch I fix then I pass. If its not out in the open he will dig to find something wrong. Sounds like this dickhead cop couldn't make the big bust so he dug and found something. Put them away invite him over so he sees their gone and then rape his sister to get back at him. On second thought scratch that last part. Seriously though I think he was just digging for something because he was sent out to make a bust and couldn't.

It's how I truly feel....And that was instilled in me in the military....you see while your dealing with people of many different nationalities all over the world you are a US representative and should conduct yourself accordingly....Likewise you never know who is going to try to kill you, therefore, Be professional, Kind and courteous to everyone you meet while simultaneously formulating a plan in which to kill them.

It applies even if I wasnt a police officer...especially in this day and age...

What you need is a giant awning that looks like a swimming pool from above ;)

Quit wasting time on this thread. The cops just threatened to arrest you then stuck their nose up your ass. Use some common sense. Get legal representation NOW

I am a pro-active guy. I would contact the police about the incident, wanting to know IF you need to prove ownership, and also the nature of the threat..is it legal..or personal.
I would also contact local news to alert the citizens of the type of community relations profiled by their employees..the police.
We pay for PROFESSIONAL PROTECTION..we do not pay for intimidation..citizen harrasment. Perhaps the media might wish to learn what YOUR COMMUNITY IS PAYING FOR.

Budgets for all municipal departments are under stress. Wasting resources, incresing judcial case loads, perhaps paying for public appointed defenders, for STREET SIGNS ?

    Someone ought to know..

I have tons of them in my garage. Some of them were given to my by a highway patrol officer (and I'm pretty sure he got them from the teenagers that were caught taking them down). I hope it's not illegal in Texas.

That's a great avatar LOL, my pops who lives in the peoples republic of Kommiefornia has a bunch of old road signs on his fence and has never been hasseled by the cops unless that can prove they were stolen me personally wouldent do anything and complain to the officers superior, I left that state because of asshole cops that had nothing better to do than pull you over and bring out the code book to find something they could ticket you on, nope I moved to Georgia where I could ride my motorcycle with my AK strapped to my back on my way to the range without getting bothered trust me freedom is nice

"Maybe find some evidence that old signs are disposed of at auction and stealing isn't the only way to aquire them."

That's not the point - he wants proof that YOUR signs were bought legally - and you don't have that.
Making up a receipt? If it says "County DPW" or "Property Clerk" it will work - and if he doesn't believe you, you get more trouble.
If it says "Aunt Bee's Antiques" it proves nothing - he's not claiming you stole it, only that you have it.

The money you lose by throwing the signs away (better: give them to the desk officer and get a receipt) is much less than what your lawyer will charge you to get the case reduced.

The signs were a diversion on there part. Your'e worried about that and the real issue is they have pictures of each other in the cars as evidence that the vehicles were there when they were there. Next come the tow trucks while your'e worring about signs.
