Okay this might be a dumb question but it will make my life easier. I just picked up a crate motor from a guy I work with. The casting number is 10066036. I know it is an 86 and up Made in Mexico motor. Thats all I know. Now I have to finish putting it together the only problem is I work all day and cannot go to a shop to get parts. I have to do it all through the internet and their search functions are autozone style. Year make model etc.. Well I obviously dont have that info so I need to know what motor is close so when I type in fuel pump I dont get 4,000 results that I have to sift through to find the right one. We can have a little fun with this too. If you had a bare long block how would you build it/dress it up? Its going in a 56 chevy 150 that is going to be a custom with a little pep.

  2. `86 and up Chevy engines have a one piece rear seal...yours has a two piece.

GM calls it a basic 350 replacement engine for `70-`85 cars...so just pick one

  3. Didn,t the one piece rear main blocks have "NO" provision to install a mechanical fuel pump? The hole was cast over?

  4. i have seen blocks that have no provision for a fuel pump , i'm not sure what they were used on. every chevy crate engine i have personally used that had a one piece rear seal did have it , both the boss on the block and a lobe on the camshaft. this includes ZZ3 , ZZ4 and the 330HO 350 engine.

1986 was the first year for the one piece rear main, but it still had the 4 bolt valve covers. 1987 started the center bolt valve covers.

The 1986 engines still used a mechanical fuel pump and a carb, at least in pickups, which is what I'm familiar with.

mortec.com shows it as a 350cid,2 piece rear main seal, target master/goodwrench replacment and any '70 stuff would fit,try 1970 z-28 or corvette.but summit or jegs will be a better bet for parts and both have on line catalogs and easy ordering.I would go with a double roller timing set, about 230* duration @ 050" x.488" lift hydaulic cam, aluminum intake ,headers,600 cfm carb, some kind of electronic ign.conversion

I'm doing one now, It's probably the less expensive one, 260 hp. I picked 76 truck cause that's what my pulleys and brackets came off. Make sure to plug the extra oil fill hole.
