the de-construction of a coupe

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hiboy32, Nov 3, 2007.

  1. Get a sway bar under the car and it'll corner a lot flatter.

Deuce Factory makes a nice small one that's easy to install.

I think Jays getting out of control though.

    thirty over.
    mild port clean-up.
    edmonds heads.
    fenton two pot intake.
    isky cam.
    hollow adjustable lifters.
    stock valves and guides.

Hmm. Sounds familiar. Motor problem, Pull the motor and repair/replace/change a bunch of other stuff along the way. At least your motor stayed together. Most of mine is still on W Dodge Expressway somewhere.

Have motor, will rebuild. and transmission, steering, suspension, wiring... Can't wait to see the coupe back out there Jeff.

Yeah, it is really hard to keep these damn motors together. I dont plan on doing as much as you plan on doing.

Good luck on getting your deuce back together.

  7. OK, so when is the "motor installation" party? Let's light that sucker off! Is this still my old motor I had in my 51 Vicky? Was a great "warrior" as long as it lasted.
BTW, I still have that free 40 front axle, Jeff....just come and get it but remember, it's gotta gradual bend to have straightened. I figure Titus can un-bend it while he drops it 4 inches..heh heh.
Here's the car the old flatmotor was originally in, before Dave customized it.

Jay, that picture says a lot about that trip and that is my motivation to get this thing back on the road.....

Yeah, that is the same flatty.

I didnt have a shop night, I just worked on it at night or when ever there wasnt much going on family wise.

I will have to stop by and get that axle and check out that running flatty.

I have gotten the freshened flatty installed and hooked up. The other night I thought it was time to make it run, only to find out that the battery had no more go power. I came home with a new battery the following day and after the kids were put to bed, I ventured out to see if she would fire. No such luck. Well I had no damn spark. Checked the wiring, and that was ok. Then I moved on to find the pointes were bad, tried cleaning the contacts, no luck. Luckily I had a spare set. guess this stuff goes bad from just sitting who-d-a thought? Put in the pointes and it lit right off. It was a great moment, kinda late but a flathead doesnt make much noise.

So, It Runs!, the cam sounds great.

Now I have to get this thing back together so I can drive it . We have nothing but rain since this thing runs and I havent been able to get this thing finished up. Hey it isnt raining right now, later!

Well I put this thing back together, even though the reconstruction is incomplete. I just needed to get this thing on the road!!! I will continue to follow through with this reconstruction broken down to small projects.

I got it out and put some miles on this thing today. About 8 miles from home I lost power and then had a screeching noise coming from the engine. I pulled over and checked things out only to find that the fan bearing had locked up. I pulled the belt and hit the road. It was cold and Windy today, figured not even a flathead would get hot today. The temp never got over 180.
The rest of the trip went well.

Hey thanks guys. These pictures are from september, it took a while to get my pictures loaded into the 'puter.

Jay, havent gotten out to work on the hotrod in quite awhile. I have been busy ( real busy ) on the house. It has also been tooooo damn cold out side.
Those headers are coming soon, ok?

Looks like the progress on your rebuild is going at steady pace, looking good.

Here is an update on my coupe's flathead, a link to the post Malcolm did about getting my coupe running... thanks Nick

I will start posting more updates soon.....

Now here is where the power of the Hamb is really special. A while back ( in October ) there was a post about interiors. Zdidy posted a pic of his old interior and I liked it. I also recieved a phone call from my good friend sololobo (Larry) and he offered to comunicate with Mr Zdidy since I was occupied with family.
Well in the end Bob sent me the interior panels to me in time for halloween. In the end he sent me the interior to me free of charge. Wow , the generosity of the hamb. Now, it has taken little time to get this massage out there, but it is very incredible.
I just wanted to tell everyone that there are incredible acts of generousity on this little message board. I am talking about comeplete strangers.

Here are some pics of the uninstalled seat cover .

Yeah, I finally got a full charge!!! I (we) even drove to the hamb drags that same year without a charging system .. about5 1/2-6 hours each way. What fun!!!

I wasnt going to let a little rain and the dark stop me from coming out to see you guys.. Thanks for the tour of the race car!

Speaking of the rain, I still dont have a top insert. I better get on that before Feb. I am planning on going to the Minn. Extreme.
