Just got home. What a GIANT mess of rain and mud. Rained almost non-stop from noon Friday and was still raining at noon when I left today.

i was there yesterday, went though the swap meet in the rain, didn't really look at too many cars tho. it was a very damp day thats forsure.

  8. Yes, the white tent. It was pretty twisted up, so those of us that were there after the tornado scare took it apart and laid it all next to the other awning and put the cook trailer under that awning.

By the time I got the track roadster back to the motel tonight that was three soakings in 2 days. I have good rain gear that did it's job but it still gets in around the edges, especially in stop and go city traffic in a monsoon.

That's a bummer about the tent.

Thanks for sharing the out west pictures Charlie. Enjoyed them.

Sunny as hell here, about 92* with a nice breeze. Worked on the cars and relaxed in the pool with a few cold ones...:D

It's a plastic car bonehead. You afraid of rust or sumpthin'...
You won't have to drive through the puddles, you could float across.
Lord knows you could stand a good shower yourself...

How's the traction in the snow with that Harley you got?
Oh, you mean you don't ride them all year long like we do?...:p
Send a picture of the snow. We don't get that down here...:D

Its so dry here you take a gl*** of water outside and it turns to dust. Hasn't rained here since the last of July first of August maybe?

We were there on Saturday, walked through the swap area, what a muddy mess, saw some guy trying to make it through there with a sedg-way type stand up scooter, he fell flat *** in the mud, had to help him out of it. I guess he thought it was a monster truck or something. Any way we did get wet but was worth it for the entertainment watching the trucks getting pulled out by a tractor, and still they tried to go in from the other end, that tractor was busy all day.
On another note anyone see the 41 Willys that bit the wall on 94 just west of Kzoo? It was a peach color pro street version. We were caught up in the aftermath traffic and only able to see it after it was going by on a flatbed. Made for a bad sight.
    We wish him well.

Yes, that one. I think we can fix it, the canvas didn't tear up, so it's a matter of new poles

What a mess, I was headed to Stanton for the Pure Stock Drags & didnt see 1 streetrod on the 4 hr trip on 80/94 or 196. I was going to hit the hotel lots at 94 on my way back, but it was raining so hard, no wipers or defrost on the 56, so I just went home. Had to get off on Red Arrow in St Joe as 94 was closed at Michigan City

3:00 and still pouring. Had a bunch of wet rodders in my museum last night and had a good time. I'm only 20 miles from Kazoo and am smart enough to stay home knowing what a mess that place can be in the rain. First time this year anything has been rained out in this area.

Chicago had 7" of rain in 24 hours and a bunch more today from the remainder of Ike. Lots of places under water. Been here my whole life and never seen the rivers this high. NE Indiana is really bad too.

Same here, and the 50mph wind is ****ing away what little moisture reamined. There's cracks in the yard so wide, I had to lay boards across 'em to get the mail. Dammit, the weather ****s everywhere!

Im stuck here, too deep in either direction if I can get out of my driveway. Just got the long board out and did some paddling in my driveway. Ive got 4 inches of water in my pole building with the 70 Formulas, the 65 Lemans, and all the parts. lucky they are just shells. I opened the door & my oil change pan and an Empty Veriprime gallon can floated out at me. looks like hours more to go. Happy to be not as bad off as others. Nothing to speak of in my Embroidery Garage or the house yet.

  24. I can't believe that any event within the Midwest even attempted to happen this weekend; we all have known the bad weather and hurricanes were coming for weeks now....Sorry about anyone's misfortune; I wish everyone a safe trip home and a quick recovery from any loss...our neighbor's house caught fire Friday night and they lost almost everything but they're all safe....just a baaaaaaad weekend all the way around here in the upper Midwest.:(

    Yeah???
Knowing the cheap **** that you are, you probably wouldn't let me have one of those beers or a shot of that gin before you did me in. You'd probably kill me by tying me to the workbench and telling me all your old car and hunting stories while feeding me deer **** jerky and pouring Milwaukee's Best down my throat.

Hey, while I think about it, if you get anymore of that jerky this year, wrap some up and send it down; or bring it down with you.:D

And how do you figure they can cancel a national event a day or so before it's to happen? As to the knowing weeks ahead of time this would happen, are you a psychic? The woozies didn't make it or left yesterday. The rest of us were there for the entire thing.

In Stanton, we just Dank more Beer, Eat more food, & told more lies about how fast we were going. Still had a good time, what are you going to do, storm went all the way to Iowa. Same anywhere, Kzoo, Martin Dragway Nostalgia Funny Cars, Stanton, its not just about the cars, part of it is the social event. Just an hour ago, I had water in the building with all my cars parts for the 2nd time in just over a month. Nothing I could do about it, so I grabbed the Long Board and started paddling around in the waist deep water in my yard. Gotta make a good time of what you are handed, be happy Its not as bad as down the street. Pics are up on my myspace.

I called the organizer on his cell phone of the concourse event I was going to go to this weekend to ask if the event was still on. He told me yes, but they will have it on the asphalt instead of the gr*** of the golf course. I would imagine that with all of planning they would be praying to just break even, meaning they still want people to come and spend money at their event. I feel bad for everyone that had events planned. Lots of organizations AND businesses lost alot of money this weekend with folks not traveling and spending money.

I really, really wanted to go bad to the Ohio event, been looking forward to it all year BUT to spend $120.00 roundtrip on fuel, motel costs, food costs, made no sense what so ever to me EVEN though my best bud would be there and we could hang out. Hanging out under a tent for three days in the rain is not worth a $300.00 dollar weekend. I stayed home and will use that money to head to an event at the end of the month in Indiana that I wasn't planning on attending and will hope for sunshine and an Indian summer.

  30. I had a great time in spite of the rain and getting soaked a few times. I also learned a few lessons on what I can do to make the track roadster a bit more rain friendly.

I hadn't had it in any significant rain until this weekend and although the rain blows over the windshield at 50 and above I think it will benefit from an increase of 1" to 1.5" of gl*** height. I drove home this morning in somewhat lighter rain and only got my face, gl***es and hat brim wet.

I also found that going through a large puddle with the p***. front tire causes the resulting wave to catch under the front of the p***. door and go thru the slot between the door and the jamb like being shot out of a garden hose and dousing my feet and legs. Weatherstripping ought to help that a bit.

No doubt about it, open wheel cars require more consideration of the elements. One thing I did get right was leavings gaps around the flooring and drain holes in the foot wells. The water literally runs through the car and out thru the belly pan louvers.
