Hey Jannie, here's some pictures from my personal camera... This truck inspired me from the first time I saw it and actually got me started on my build. Although I don't have the inside scoop like Littleman, I visited the So-Cal shop while on vacation and found out Jimmy is a real first cl*** guy. He talked with me while he worked and allowed me full access to his truck, inviting me to climb in, around and under it. Awesome experience. Anyway, enjoy!

This may all be more of a east cost view on my part, but I was very disapointed that it did not get the shiny paint as Jimmy's ture self had intened,he let him self get talked out of doing his rod his way,for what I feel were the wrong ideas.
The poor looking perimer/flat and or bearmetal trend of the last 10 years or so,for the most part based on the bull that it was ever done that way in the 50 & 60's as a completed finish is way off base and wrong, yet that's why most think it looks good, thinking after all it's the old school look, but it's not! I'll tell ya,if these unfinished rods had showed up that way more then a few time with out the shiny, the other guys would of ribbed hell out of the lazy bum for not getting it done, but at the same time offered to help with the painting.
Myself and all the rodder's I knew put shiny on ASAP.

I don't think anyone thinks bare metal is an "old school" look, at least I hope not. I believe this trend is just a modern interpretation of "industrial" or "raw" styling. Function before form. Purpose built. It also showcases the builder's craftsmanship since none of the fabrication is hidden by fillers...and you could probably even go as far as saying a bare metal build holds the fabrication to a higher standard.

The headlight/shock stands on the front look to be modified Ford F-1 front shock stands.

For the shocks to fit your particular truck you will probably have to get into a shock catalog and find shocks to fit according to ends, extended and compressed lengths and rating as far as what they are originally intended to handle. It usually is not that involved a process if you can find a catalog with dimensions.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hopes that this bare metal thing has run it's course in the line of fads. It's great to bring the fresh unfinished rig out for it's first public venture into the hotrod world in it's bare metal to show the body work and fit and finish but then it needs to go back to the shop and be finished out and not drug around for several years with a supply of wd40 and steel wool.

How do they keep that bare metal look without rusting? What is the trick?

Dont use WD 40 if you plan on ever painting it....you will have trouble..

    Use Gibbs instead.

Thanks everyone--many of the pics posted were the ones I did for Street Rodder, including the dirt-squirt shot in the first post.

In my opinion, though, that truck's not all it's cracked up to be--your beer gets hot almost instantly due to the lack of insulation and interior, even if you drink real fast. You'd think someone with that guy's talent would'a put a little more time and effort into that aspect...I sure would have.

When you compared Shine's '34 to the KID, you stepped out of bounds, weemark. Like me, you must really enjoy single malt !

I concur with Dana Barlow about the "raw" look not being from the early days. I am 68 and can remember rod owners painting their rides when they finally had enough money. Some bodies stayed in primer too long and had to be prepped, or reprepped, before paint, but these guys didn't have super jobs and could only spend money when they acquired it. "Back then", most car guys were considered poor boys.
