I have a guy who made an offer for my 58 oldsmobile. I accepted and he left me the deposit I asked for and i took it out of my paypal account. He is saying he is going to pay me via paypal on Wednesday and have someone comes pick up the car on Thursday. It wont be him personally. Should I be weary of this? I have printed our conversations out just to cover my tracks.

What should I do? I have a paypal card so should i take out the remaining money as soon as it gets into account or is there something else?

Make sure money is there in the account and have the buyer give a print out of money paid and of the auction sale so the unknown can give it to you....that way you know he is legit. Also take pictures of plates and people.

    Where's the guy coming from?

Take the money and close the PP Credit card account if you're worried...or tell him you're worried and have his buddy bring cash...just as easy for him to PP the guy picking it up.

If you have been paid, i see no problem with letting someone else pick it up. perhaps he is a busy guy?
on second thought, and Cali may be different, but i know in NC, the seller and buyer had to have the title notarized. BIG pain. make sure something like that wont be an issue.

Well he knows there is no title. That he knows. He is coming from Oxnard, California. He did ask if I could deliver for extra $$ but i dont have the means. I just got cautious with the "transporter" part of everything.

Get a phone number and address call speak to him or her on the phone .God bless you

  11. I've had guys lie to me in eBay deals and then have the gall to pull the God Bless routine too. I usually then remind them the Lord doesn't look too favorably on liars, and they never have a comeback for that.

Why on earth are you taking scam-Pal for payment for a car? All a guy has to do is lie to them and say you didn't ship their item - it doesn't matter that it's a 4500 lb car, if there's no UPS/FedEx/USPS tracking number, they get the money back. And you're on the hook for it.

And not only that, the fees have to be unreal. I never take Paypal for more money than I am comfortable losing. Especially with an old car it's CASH IN PERSON only.

If someone else comes and gets the car make them sign something, we had a guy send his driver to get a car, the guy looked it over, okayed it, then the guy finds something about it he doesn't like when he gets it home and bitched for weeks about wanting his money back. To which we said screw off, but you don't want to deal with that.

I don't accept paypal for my cars. The last was cash only. If this is legit Im ok. I plan on taking the $$ out immediatly if I cant get him to bring cash.

  14. Of course, Paypal can reverse the withdrawl, or if you do get the cash out, they put the account in the negative and send it to collections if you don't pay up. Same difference either way. Legally you're fine, but you literally have to sue to get them to correct it.

I suppose you could keep some small part and ship that to his address and at least you beat that scam, by giving Paypal the tracking from the trim part or key or whatever you hang onto.

DO NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL for this transaction. Let me repeat, DO NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL.

Refund the deposit when he gets there to pick up the car and insist on full payment in cash.

I'm not saying that this will happen but it can easily happen and now you can't say that you were not warned. He gets the car, gets back home and claims that he did not recieve the car. You must prove by online tracking that he got the car. You can not do that. Paypal refunds him his money. This is how they operate.

You may close your account but Paypal does go after certain accounts with a collection agency.

Do NOT accept Paypal for this.

if you have your paypal hooked up to your bank account, they can drain it if he contacts paypal for a refund.... better to have it hooked to a credit card.

Biggest screwings that I have ever gotten in my life came courtesy of some very religious individuals. I'm always cautious, now.

BTW- If they did use a phony credit card, cheat you, & you file a claim, PP may try to get it back from you! My buddy had that happen & PP blacklisted him for getting scammed. Makes no sense, but it happens.

My credit isnt good anyways right now, plus my bank is dry. Not a great thing but it can be fixed when the time is right. If he refuses to pay cash then I will assume it isnt legit.

Please don't take paypal for the full payment.
I did that on a truck, and the guy messed with me royal.

I took the funds out right away, and paypal did a charge-back and put my account in the hole for 1800.

Do a search on here under my name about paypal. It was a real mess.

paypal deposit is ok, avoid full payment though...

If he/his agent can't bring cash,be VERY careful!
    Look at it this way...
You have to deposit money into the paypal account, either by credit card or checking account.
Let's say his "friend" picks up the car and on the way back the "buyer" cancels the transaction through paypal.
Now you're out your car AND your money.
If they have the money to deposit, why not save on the fees and pay CASH.

I had a buyer for a car ask if I would take a check,I said sure,as long as it's wrapped around a stack of cash!

Makes no difference to the Paypal angle. You still can not prove by online methods that the car was delivered.

You can have a notorized bill of sale from the Pope and Paypal won't care. Online delivery confirmation only.

This goes for anything picked up in person. Do NOT accept Paypal.

Well he is offering to pay Wednesday but not pick up the car until thursday. Is there an amount of money that paypal will put on hold before it goes through and can be taken out? He owes 700 still.

You would be better off just to call the guy,
refund his deposit and tell him to send cash with the fellow thats coming to get the car!
    NO PROBLEM!

Cash. Pictures. Take the "hauler" downtown and have their receipt notarized.Cash.
The only way I'd be pissed as a buyer is if you had good reasons to suspect me.

Oh, yeah. I think you meant "Ebay wary", but "Ebay Weary" works for me, too. :)
