Spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday under a canopy with my (no top) duece roadster and did have a good time other than having to deal with the rain and dodging and ducking eveyone's unbrella and the puddles. I did end up ordering a collapible top from Rod Tops (www.rodtops.com) out of Northern MI and got a great price on it for the hole package (complete top, gl*** back window and side curtains) plus after it is delivered in about two weeks, they are sending a guy down to install and fit it which was included in the deal. Anyway, the event was extremely wet, like constant rain for three days that produced over 10" of rain and a tornado that hit 20 miles west of the fair grounds late Saturday afternoon. It was reported there were 2377 cars registered and most everyone stayed through Sunday, only the weinies left early. Long distance award went to someone from Houston Tx. guess that may have been good timing to be out of town when Hurricane Ike hit, but hey still got wet. lol. Glad you had a good time but I don't believe that statement for a minute. I think NSRA is pulling your leg. I've seen pictures from all three days and no way were there even close to that figure on Sunday. Pictures from Saturday from PPU Normally you would basicly not even be able to see the gr*** in this photo with the normal amount of cars in the background and the beloved RRT tent Swap Meet, these were taken on Sunday from the beachers George's bucket, from Thursday night to Sunday and a pal of George's ...."The wide tires hydroplaned in the heavy rain and he lost control and hit a tree head on. He's busted up pretty bad and in surgery but is expected to pull through. Some of you local guys that raced at Martin might know him. Smitty was the main tech guy at the US 131 Dragway from the late '60s thru the '80s. " Thoughts and prayers for a speedy and painfree as possible recovery.
Looks like a really great weekend FOR A DUCK! Just kidding ya , A day at a car show is better then a(______) insert your own ...
True or not, that is what was reported at Sunday's awards program for the total cars regristered. I watched your tent collapse Saturday, what a shame for the loss. I was the yellow duece roadster parked just along the north side of your group. drive'em till the snow flys Mike M Kentwood MI
I knew it had to be ****py, when my parents said to hell with it, and came home saturday morning. I was just getting ready to head out for the day on saturday morning, when my father called and told me not to waste my time, unless I had hip waiters or webbed feet. Oh well, cant have great weather every year.
Not my tent but it belongs to Enjenjo and FatCat owners of the RRT (Rounding Roundtable). It is a shame, they've only had the tent for a short time. Next year stop over and say hi and grab something to eat. ALWAYS plenty for everyone. Weather permitting, I'll have my purple '47 Oldsmobile parked in the same area.
Sorry I missed the fun and swap even with the rain. What's the old saying a bad day at a hotrod show is better then sitting at work pumping out water So hows the driver of the truck doing? Prayers out to him.
ya wow I was planning on going and last minute we decided not to and it looks like I didn't miss a whole lot. but it still would of been a good time
There's no secret about the attendance numbers announced...it includes the pre-sold registrations and the late registrations sold at the event. It really has nothing to do with the actual car count as lots of people enter a car to get the admission cheaper and lots of people never show up at all. Once the registration is sold it's not cost effective to look for the guys that didn't show up. Just take the announced numbers with a grain of salt. Charlie
I had the family up and ready to go Saturday morning, but received scowls as we headed out. Took the family back and told them "I need to buy a car, I am going!!" They chuckled and waved. I made it about 1/4 of the way there and finally turned around when radio weatherman said tornado's were expected... Hope those that did go had fun. How is the driver of that truck? Thoughts go out to him and his family.
i went with a few people, they had freakin' poncho's and me my dad and my buddy mike just had out jackets, and then my dad tried to jump the puddel and twisted his knee trying not to mud slide. one guy had a few parts at the swap meet i wanted but no one was there, all of his **** was torn up because of the weather. then on the way back my friends van konked out in jackson. just too much madness.
Well im on that list of no shows. I did p*** you thursday when you were heading over to set up.. I was on the red harley that yelled but you **** ****you didnt even wave back .. I got up friday ,saturday and sunday and said **** this.. I could just get on the harley and get wet rather than the roadster... Besides there is always next year if i have a car... Its too bad but like was stated above **** happens and the weather aint always great.... Dave
Dave, Yeah, I heard some yahoo on a Harley yell at me. Couldn't tell that it was you, but thought...jeez, there's one of those Harley ****s.... I guess I was right - LOL. Charlie
i went on thursday hung in there all week end, i love punishment! but had a good time! friends down from canada, local friends had a few brews, went to my buddy dave cranes for our annual get together, what the hell a little rain. heard about the willys crash from crane on sunday nite, my prays are with him. i will be there next year even if it snows!
I got off work late saturday mornin and it was a down pour. I still got in the car and hit the road. I didn't make it there til around noon. It rained all 3hrs of the drive there... I p***ed a whole lot of cars going the opposite direction... Didn't complain about gettin wet in the shower that mornin did ya?
I actually filmed some cars leaving in the rain - got about 3 minutes of footage....................... then the camera lens got so bad with rain that it was just worthless to keep trying the people that were there actually came inside and saw us - so THANK YOU to all those who came by - the response to the magazine was really favorable and we sold a few dvds as well............. I was telling many people I would see them at the Hunnert............ and many many people responded with.......The What? weird - I thought everyone knew about that show...................
I guess ya gotta be internet savvy to know... Sorry I missed you but i looked at the weather and it just wasnt worth my time to drive out... The best day was thursday when i rode out on the harley to finish the registration... Ahhh the smell of fresh road kill Dave
"I was telling many people I would see them at the Hunnert............ and many many people responded with.......The What? weird - I thought everyone knew about that show...................[/quote] Don't forget, this was a streetrod show, I'd guess 90% of the cars there wouldn't make it thru the gate at the Hunnert
You know it is bad when the NSRA lets us vendors leave 3 hrs early. I would have to dispute the numbers. When I looked out of my window at headquarters Sat morning and you could count the street rods on your fingers and toes that's not good!
You know it's bad when the locals don't go. It's not worth ruining your car getting caught in rising flood waters. I was out of town (dry and warm Las Vegas), and regretted not being home for the show, but seeing photos, and talking with my friends here, who also chose not to go, it was a fiasco. Friends of ours who did go ALL bailed early. One couple in a Flxible bus in the campground had to drive it thru over two feet of water, and the waters in the campground area rose to over 4 feet. Fairground crews had to abandon ***isting people mired in water and mud as the water was too deep to safely run 4wd tractors. It's not about being a "weenie", it's about not getting hurt and wrecking you stuff. Brian
We arrived on Friday and were able to go through the swap meet with some occasional drizzle. Picked up a 34 pedal ***embly. We contemplated going home saturday, but the A didn't want to run. Left it sit at the hotel and a group of us went to the Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners. Excellant museum, I highly recommend it, alot of big money cars such as Packards, Auburns, Pierce Arrows, etc. Got the A running that evening and got the engine dried out. Stopped at the Fairgrounds Sunday, then headed home to one on the worst drives ever. Constant rain, large amount of spray being thrown up by other cars. Had two occasions where the A would start to run really rough, first time we pulled off the freeway and cut a bucket so it would cover the front of the aircleaner to block the spray. Had to stop a second time and spray everything with a good soaking of WD-40. The vertical windshield, no defrosters and some leaks all add to the adventure. Its been together over 22 years, you don't realize how fast time p***es, and how old some of the components are (distributor cap, etc)
