Bruce, that's a great picture of Big Daddy. The stories he told us after the show were just too cool. How it really was, the cars they built, the street racing and all. Just an awesome guy and the museum is about as good as it gets for a show like Billetproof. Already looking forward to next year. Mike
A few more pics for the weekend crowd!! Couldn't forget the Arduns. Check out the induction-charger on the flat-head!! >>>>.
ahh swamp rat VIII, in my eye's one of the best looking full body rails ever. always loved the proportions and lines of it, Sweet!!!
I'd love to meet Big Daddy and spend a contemplative day at his museum in Ocala. He's been an Idol of mine for a very long time. Hope I make it (in time). I didn't know that he had The Bug.
Everything said about Garlits' place is true in spades. It's simply cool beyond description for any gearhead. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Don's fabulous antique car display just next door (included in the Museum ticket price). It's also very nice - and chock full of beautiful cars, including several of Don's old "drivers".
Ok the engine works all done for the night so here goes with some more pics. Did somebody request some antique pics. I'm just getting to them. The lighting in the antique car building wasn't real good and the cars are packed in like sardines >>>>.
The Don Garlits Drag Racing museum is a must see,for anyone who likes old cars and Drag Racing you simply must see what this man has saved for all of us.Don Garlits has done more to preserve Drag Racing history than any one individual that i know of ,i went to the museum when it opened, and have been back there so many times that i lost count,i have talked to Don many times and he has always been very gracious,(except the time that i was set up at a swap meet there and he spotted a bucket with some Lincoln Zephyr gears in it,and told me to be quiet while he counted the number of teeth on the gears,i was babbling because i was so excited that he stopped at my mess) I live just down the road from the museum,so i am lucky in that respect, when in Fla. give it a try ,you wont be sorry.
I believe they try to change things ever so often, people "donate" cars to show for a short time or so. The building is pretty much packed with some serious history all the time. The retail store in front has alot of neat things too.
