57 olds 371 question

    on the starter there are 4 post. the 2 big ones, the ignition and a 4th post??? that puts out 12 volts when the key is on. what do i connect it to? thanks, randy

    Hey Randy,
    I have a 1950 thru 1960 Chiltons manual that I think may have a diagram of your
    starter circuit.
    I will try to remember to pull it out and check.
    Jog my memory again if you don't hear back from me in the next few days.

    If i remember right it needs to go to neutral safety switch- is your wire loom intact or is it not in the 57 olds anymore?

    + side, gives full 12 volts for starting. After key is released to the run position the power goes through the ballast resistor to lower the voltage so the points do not burn up. Brian
