Ive had these photos for a couple of years but never had a scanner and wanted to post em on the hamb for a long time.

one of my co-workers comes into work one day and says "guess what i found at the dump today"

so here is what he found a killer photo collection of someones, i cant believe people can throu this stuff away but im ***uming the one thatt really cared about these photos is no longer with us.:(

but here they are quickly scanned for your viewing pleasure

i dont know much about them but there is some writing on the back of a few.

there are a couple of pics of stan calloway, one at the MN state fair 1954, and one more unfortunatly of his funeral in tampa fla 1954.

there is one thats says "to my old pal bozo, brown too! too!"
and one says "russ "brown" "42" remember me. Too!Too!

    one says Pete louime ce7607

one says Gene zeimet virginia N and billy snyder

and one more says "#1990 Tim McNithey ceder rapids 1955"

and there are a tonmore that were printed in 1941

I plan on doing some reserch on these photos, my buddy told me about a group of old dirt trackers that meet once a month that may be able to shed some light

i guess my ultimate goal would be to possibly make a book about this photo collection, does that sound dumb or not?

    JEFF

Great save Jeff. By all means dig up all the info you can on those pics. There are still a lot of guys around that know about those dirt cars. A book would be awesome. Put me down for a copy.

  10. Judging by the range of time of those photos, and the intimacy of the subject matter, they were taken by someone who was deeply involved in the sport and was pretty p***ionate about it.

    Awesome.

    Very nice! cool find.

If you want info on the cars, post those pics on the "SPRINT CAR PHOTO THREAD"

Those guys are UNREAL at identifying cars. I recognize a few. One of my favorite all time cars and racers.. Ted Horn with "Babe" is the #1 at the bottom right of the one group.

It'd be great to see some of those photos colorised by that Rik Hoving(sp?) guy...the one that touches up hot rod photos into color, saw his stuff in TRJ awhile back...great find bro, good luck with the research...

That inscription should read: "Jim McWithey-Cedar Rapids 1955". Perchance is that on the back of the photo in the top left of the left hand thumbnail in the second row? Jim McWithey came out of the Mutual Racing ***ociation (Track roadsters) in Indiana and graduated to sprint cars in Tom Cherry's All American Racing Club-a stock block sprint car group that ran out of Muncie, IN in the '50s. That #83 car is one of the Cherry house cars with a flathead Merc. Jim Mc went on to run with U.S.A.C.

You might want to consider joining the YaHoo group: Racing History. (http//sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/racinghistory.) It's a discussion group devoted to open wheel racing from the beginning thru about '74. Many knowledgeable people frequnt the site and theer's a photo gallery where you could post these photos in a format where folks could really see them-and likely identify many of them.

I like the rear shots of the cars with the driver looking back at you. Seemed to be the way they took photos than. havent noticed that continuing on with todays cars.
