108 in small coup at Freemont in 64. 158 in red coup at salt in 79. small blue avitar roadster ran 141 with a Lotus 2 liter motor and 135 with an overhead valve 32 Plymouth four. 113 with a flathead '32 Plymouth four. And if we allow V8 Vegas 208 in '92 in my Pontiac powered Vega. 108 in a Bantam on T Ford frame with A front axle and a welded in 49 Olds rear is pretty attention getting

  2. A buck is nothing, I've had the Pusher past that in the 1320 and drove it to and from.

If you're '56 won't run much better than that even with the 265 you should consider tearing it down and freshening it a bit. Not to knock you mind you but the 265 should run better than that.

oldest car ive gone over 100 in was a 66 riviera with a 465 wildcat in it. went just under 140 on the I15 on the way to vegas, then a powersteering hose burst and i had to slow it down. car was a shudderin' and a shakin' over 120.

Had my 56 chevy trucks speedo buried past 100 a few times, it had a hopped up 327 with 3:73 gears, a 700r-4, and a malibu frt clip. It actually was'nt bad at all, the scary part was that it was like pushing a brick for streamlining. the hood and wiper arms start really dancing. Would have hated to have had the hood pop up at those speeds.

  5. My buddy's twin turbo 66 F-100, blows away the tires at 85 mph, grabs 4th at 105, 5th at 130, plenty of rpms left and .500 overdrive 6th gear still to be had if we hadn't run out of room. The truck is too heavy for the clutch's ability to hold torque. In another chassis, it should run 200 in couple of years.
I just hope my Model A will be comfortable at 120.

I had my 57 olds up to 120 last summer. probably the sketchiest thing I have ever done. So I had to top that with taking a picture while doing it. Yeah I know I'm a dumbass. But at least I know it and there wasn't anyone else around to suffer my consequences. Even at 120 there was alot of pedal left. I really wonder what the top speed is on that car. Anyway.........

Don't know for sure but the 55 with stock susp. kinda feels like a wet rag with the speedo buried. Still had some left but until the rest of it is ready, that's fast enough

Got me an old "century club" jacket from years ago...28 fenderless tudor mild chop, 57 Nailhead with 2x4 and a 4.10 gear, I think the et was around 13 and small change.

Never had a license plate (or title) to that car and (this was high school) we drove that thing all over the place. It helps to be from a small town..."where everybody knows your name"....like the County Sheriff and the principal and the nasty old lady down the street that didn't think much of zoomies....cranky old heifer.

Did 110 mph in my Buick once, still alot of room under the pedal, but that little bit of play in the steering made me real nervous. The nailhead was loving it.

  13. I can confirm that a '66 Riviera will do 140... at least according to the barrel speedo.

I had a '62 LeMans 4cyl/4bbl./4sp. well over 100 on interstate near downtown Tampa... In a condition that would make me think that 100 was a good idea in a '62 Lemans.

Well a few weeks ago, I pushed my 55 chev wagon to over 110mph and have a short video on the front page of our website. www.powerandnoise.com It used to be Jr.'s old wagonfrom Jalopy showdown. Made sure nobody was around incase we crashed and burned. I just rebuilt everything from the suspension to motor/trans etc. Like everybody says I've hit 125 in other cars and it takes on a whole new feeling. Joe

Around 130 mph in my 1966 Chrysler 300 on the Autobahn - not sure about the exact #, as the speedo maxes out at 120, the needle was at approx. 140 and wouldn´t go any further because of the warning light next to the speedo.
The car was still accelerating, but I decided it was time to slow down a bit - the driveshaft is out of balance and the car was shaking like crazy.

1982 at the Duece Doins in Indiapolis.
I was in my chopped and channeled 32 5 window
There was 33 32 fords on the Indianapolis Track
We were supposed to do only 55 mph but by the end of the 4th lap we were well over 90mph!
    Was a blast
    Will look for my pics

  21. 1973 Suburban 4x4 (its my junk hauler) was over 100 mph coming down the Tehachapi grade into bako with a pinto race car on the trailer and 4 buddies with me at 2230 p.m. on a sunday night. The kicker- I was using the hitch off my old GMC 4500 oilfield service truck; it snapped in 2 while hauling a trailer at 5 mph at Elk Hills on the following wednesday morning at 0330 a.m.. Can you say "SAFETY CHAIN(S)"? This was back in November of 2007.-Weeks

  22. 125 by the tach on the back straight at California Speedway. 3:05 gears, and a lot left on the pedal, but it got feelin' real light in the Fontana cross wind, and that was enough for me.

I've had my '59 Fairlane right around 100mph. It felt fast as shit in such a big car.

  25. I have had my 57' Poncho up to around 100ish. The speedo cable gave up at 95mph and thats there the speedo has been sitting ever since. Thats only with the little 305/TH700/3.36 setup in the car, and the stupid thing was under 3500rpm.

I've had my 59 Belair over 100 MPH , many times. :D It gets a little light in the front end at about 90, but otherwise it's very stable. And NO the rear end does NOT come off the ground at 100.
