Kill 29 Phaeton just finished....You gotta see this car....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 29EHV8, Jul 21, 2004.

  1. This is Cam Grants(the guy who started Past Tech Duvall windshield frames and sold it to Speedway)29 Phaeton he just brought out. This car is incredible. The attention to details is 2nd to none.
Its a SBC with the Ardun conversion. He made his own intake so it looks like a flatty type.He also made his own aircleaner. The car is unreal. His craftsmanship is unbelievable.
Now one of my all time favorites for sure......Shiny [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I love the car, but whats up with the motor? is it a sbc, and the distributor, and heads are just fake?

It's a stunning car, but I don't understand the need to put a fake motor in it. IMO the options for a powerplant are:
    1. A real Ardun
    2. A fully dressed flathead
    3. A SBC with all of the early period correct speed equipment.
I may be wrong but I suspect there will be a lot of people who think the car is lame just by the engine selection, and that's a shame 'cause it's a beauty.

I like a lot of the details on that car...and I'd especially like to know where to get some of those hubcaps. Too bad that goofy motor will likely cause a **** storm that will overshadow a lot of the cool stuff.

Ditto for me on what's been said but get a load of the seat placement...

Is the driver like 7'8" or what?

I think it's a given that the engine is silly. But look at some of the other stuff. The hood ornament is cool. NealinCA and I already mentioned the hubcaps. I like the aircleaner too even though I don't think air cleaners should be a big heavy thing made from cast aluminum. Hoodless in the photo but I see hood latches too? Neat car. Cool windshield.

    Cool lookin car but......

If your gonna spend lotsa money why fake an engine? As has been said, any cool period motor would be better than a fake motor. then again its his money and car.

Are those heads from old Pontiac hood ornaments maybe?

That's what I don't understand. It's like... nearly 700 dollars of fake stuff on the motor there. That's a lot of money that could have been spend on a real baby Hemi or something, you know? I still like the car, even if I know the motor is fake.

I just got to chime in. Car cool. Engine LAME! I could probably like it with a regular old SBC in it. But not with that fake *** BS going on.

I got the impression from reading the original post that he actually mated a set of new Ardun heads to the motor. Maybe the guy is a hell of a machinist.

  19. Great car!! I'm not gonna rag on the guy cause of the motor. Hell...he made a custom intake and air cleaner just to make it look correct. I'd love to have one of those intakes and air cleaners! The rest of the car is perfect. I think those hubcaps were an accessory back then.

  20. Rockfish..I thaught the same thing at first but the headers don't look quite right. There are front mount distributor conversions for SBC. Can't tell if it's fake or not. sorta looks like there's a distributor in the back.

If Shiny didn't tell us it was a SBC/Ardun conversion, 99.9% of you guys would have never known it was a "fake"!! The amount of work and talent it would take to make the intake and match the heads to the block more than qualifies this car, and guy, cool.
So what if its a conversion!! Sure, there are plenty of real Arduns around........a dime per dozen I hear.
p.s. got any more pics of the black 3w in the background of the 1st pic?

    Well here goes...
Cam Grant builds some of the most *****IN Traditional cars on the PLANET!

Guess what, awhile back he came up with what is possibly the best looking Deuce highboy ever. Had a Hemi in it too.
*****in detail on that car too, just like this one. Guess what else. It was a gl*** body. SO ****ING WHAT! Who cares. The car was RIGHT!

You all can't seem to see the forest for the trees. Look at the ****ing talant and appreciate what most of you could never accomplish. What an incredible car! I'd bet he probably built this for his own satisfaction, never thinking about what we on the HAMB would like. And, I'm sure it'll drive anywhere!!!

While I don't know him personally, I've always admired what he's been able to do.
I have one of his original DuVall style windshields on my Roadster, there again, incredible detail and craftsmanship!

And just for the record, he sold Past Tech to Lucky Fred. Fred later sold it to Speedy Bill.
Who knows if the quality has suffered in the last transaction?

Anyways, take another look, past your noses! You'll see some real amazing stuff there. Real Hot Rod Art. [IMG]

I was just about to post this picture anyway, but Mitch explained my point better.

I say cool. Vision well executed, not some primered four door Galaxy...

My only gripe-that damned radiator cap. With so many other great details, why do people settle for those goofy caps...

I love the detail, but whats going on with the seat back it looks as though it's way far to the back of the car? The photos don't show enough of interior to understand whats going on.--TV [IMG]

  30. Killer car, did anyone actually SAY that is was a fake conversion? You guys are like a bunch of old hens. I wanna know more about that motor! If it is a canversion it is damn cool. Also, the seat placement is a killer idea. If you have never sat in an A touring you have NO CLUE how cramped they are. We just finished one with the seat divider moved back 4" and could have used 4 more.
