  1. Just pull the pump cover and pack it with vasoline . . . works like a charm! With that said, I've never had to actually do that on a flathead with a new oil-pump . . . should suction and build pressure with no problems.

Keep us posted . . . glad you guys found the cam gear issue . . . kind of figured that was worth checking out.

I acquired a flathead many years ago that had no oil pressure when I started it up----turned out that it didn't have a gear on the back end of the camshaft.

  3. Problem is solved!!!! Yeah!!!

I spoke with Tom last night, turns out that the plate on the bottom of the new oil pump was loose and the pressure was being bypassed right there. Tightened it up and 50lbs of pressure now!!!

All is right in the land of the flathead :)

Now he can make it to the Hunnert Car Pile Up show in a few weeks. My nephew is excited to see the car run because he's been hanging around my shop lately trying to get into the old Ford stuff and when Toms engine was here I let him work on it a little. Teaching him how to take things apart, letting him clean stuff, he took all the carbon off the heads and pistons, then showing him how to reinstall things. He's pretty excited since it's the first flathead he's ever had anything to do with.

  9. Tom-

She's not ugly....just "special". :) Now that she's been cleaned and de-greased a little...she's perfect for the car.
