A guy up the street from me has a 65 ford Econoline van for sale. He has a sign in the window saying that its a 65 Falcon, there is a Falcon emblem on the rear of the van and another just sitting in the dash pocket. Question is...
Did ford call some of these vans Falcons or is this guy smoking crack?

Econolines were Econolines !! Closest Falcon got to a truck was a sedan delivery.

It was originally offered as a cargo van, an 8-p***enger van with 3 rows of seats (which carried the Ford Falcon name) and as a pickup truck. Per wikipedia.

  5. Yes they were called Falcon vans as well. Usually the window vans or p***enger style as stated above

I've seen the falcon badge on econolines as well. None as late as 65 though.

  10. Falcon-A, I thought it was a rebadge job too.

Yeah, the Falcon Vans were just Econoline vans with some extra doo dads, like side trim and interior door panels. I think only the fully windowed vans with rear p***enger seats came with the Falcon moniker. FYI, the side trim was a long spear, about 2-3" wide. Someone on the HAMB added it to their Econo P/U. Looks niiiiice!

FYI2, the 65-67 vans had a tubular crossmember which makes it a LOT easier to put in a bigger 6 or v8. It will also have a larger dogbox, making that conversion easier. If that 65 has a 240, your engine change possibilites are REALLY good.

a true Falcon van has all the windows, fibergl*** trim around the windows, and rear seats, also the trim on the sides that hellfish mentioned. the side trim was also available in 65 on the econoline pickups with the "spring special" package. coupe de cab has or had one.

    i have a 66 falcon van.

the reasoning behind the name was for tax reasons. in many states, and i know to this day in CO, p***enger vans pay lower taxes than cargo vans. the falcon name was positive identification that it was built as a p***enger vehicle.

    my, actually my girlfriend's, falcon:

seats are alot nicer in the falcon or club wagon too, i just picked up some regular econo's for my p/u and some club wagon seats for srosa707's van and he's definetly getting the luxury over mine, but i'm using a sweet set up for my p***enger seat which is this overstated lawn chair folding rig that snaps in and out with ease, any one ever see one of those? is it a dealer option?

Like this jump seat? I'm not sure if it was a dealer or factory option.

Yep, I've owned a falcon van and a falcon club wagon van in the last few years, the club wagon had the side trim...wish I'd kept the side trim for my econoline panel van I have now.
