GOOD LUCK with whatever you do. the key in this rising cesspool we call a "economy" is practice holding your breath and keep your mouth closed!:D

  2. Funny, we are going gangbusters here. Maybe shut off your TV for a few days and realize why this is still the best place in the world to raise a family or start a business or play with hotrods etc.........

Todd, you really need a good plan for it to flow smoothly, I would be glad to chat with you ifiin you want. I sold a ton at my old jobs and can prob help.

You are overlooking the obvious. Why not be a waitress at the restaurant, with you good looks and charm, you could make a small fortune!!!

    Agreed, swapmeets are for buying.

Ebay is great for getting off-ebay sales. About 1/2 of my sales are off-ebay now, phone calls and e-mail.

People like to ***** about eBay but you can't beat the cheap advertising.

A few years ago I had a few 67-68 Cougars and mad a KILLING off of parting them on ebay.......The trick is find the stuff that is not repopped. I sold little chrome knob that changes the trip odometer back for $120 and it was the size of a pen cap but it was in PERFECT shape and they don't reproduce them. So yes you can make decent money.
I also found a complete dash (gauges and all) out of a 66 Buick Lesabre at garage sale for $5. It was really nice. Sold it on Ebay for $125 and the guy lived in Sweden and it cost him $400 to have it shipped. So he paid $525 for a part I paid $5 for. But, he needed it.

That bus is sweet. Good hauler, especially mini bikes. Ya there is an idea specialize in selling mini bike parts. We could partner up. We almost got the market cornered that you started anyway. lol

Yea sorry about all those confusing inside jokes. Way too many. lol

Specializing is good. I use to deal with a lot of 78-87 Malibu and Elcaminos. If it had a 3 speed or 4 speed I was buying it. I had been getting calls from unknown people wanting to know if I had such n such part. I remember a guy calling from California wanting to know if I had a tilt column for a 4 speed car. I told him I had a few. He about went nuts. I was just wondering how he got ahold of me. He said some guy from Kentucky gave him my name and number. Now that was weird.

Don't forget the old parts (aka antique parts). Pick up some old parts manuals and be on the lookout for NORS parts. If you have the time, these can add some good $$$$ to the kitty. I deal in old electrical and old coils. the older brands can bring some good bucks. FYI, an NOS coil for a WWII Jeep will bring you $150-175. If you have the time, you can pick up $20-30K per year with swap meets and ebay and list postings.

My main source of income has been E-bay for the past year and a half. If I decide to work harder at it,it`d be like giving myself a raise.

Lots of good ideas here, but it's a loaded question. Selling parts is just like any other business. I know people at both ends of the spectrum who own restaurants; hand to mouth and wealthy.

I think it depends on how dedicated, organized and financially you are committed to making it work. I can't see you making a living at just parting out cars of various makes and flogging the parts on Ebay.

Now if you were known for say 49-56 Fords, had an inventory of used and reproduction parts, website, rebuilding services, free advice, etc. it can work.

I sell and manufacture a few parts on the side, some sold on Ebay and elsewhere. It's a lot of work and requires capital. For example, by the time I pay for tooling, a test run, production run, machining, polishing, etc. I have a lot of costs I have to foot before I sell a single piece.
