Alright so a topic obviously beat to death... but a question I feel well deserved of asking... HotRodPrimer has been preaching the gospel of Kirker Hot Rod Black for sometime and he posted in another thread of mine earlier and it sparked my interest.... Whats the story on Kirker.... not a name I hear everyday but the stuff seems to carry a good reputation. I want to use a sealer, high build primer, and then the top coat... the sealer I was looking at was the DP90 people seem to say its good stuff. the High build was going to be Clausens Rust Defender High Build... I saw this product used by the SPIKE TV Power Block shows... trucks, muscle car, and so on. Seems to be a great product from what I read... they make another one that is interesting too... but some guys say to use the evercoat feather fill. dunno. obviously I am gonna use Evercoats Rage Gold filler. The stuff is great! What would be a good paint package for my old 65 f100. using that Kirker. Please inform and enlighten me! and keep the beating to a minimal.
Use everything that Kirker sells. Epoxy primer/sealer, high build primer and the black. You won't have to worry about compatibility issues.
Yeah I try to stick with a single line on a car.... PPG, Dupont, House of Kolor, though I do really like the HOK clear and put that over the PPG on my Buick....
I have built a bunch of hot rods over the years, some were painted, red, gloss black even green and one truck was gloss black with flames,,but I have always liked the low sheen look of gray, red and black primers,,,,black being my favorite. Like I said in your other post,,,I have used most of the primes ranginging from regular ol' lacquer primer,to epoxy primers along with the tractor black and blitz black. The black on my truck is something I have been well satisified,,there are probably other products that will do the job but I am satisfied with Kirker and WILL use it again in the future. I suggest using the kirker product line for your primers and thats what we did but I have a friend that used Napa primer and his 37 Ford's finish looks no different than mine. HRP
What all have you done to keep the finish looking great.... obviously you cant buff it or wax or polish it.... how do you keep the paint looking wet and not all dried out. I like the semigloss black look but not when its all dried out and nearly gray.
It dosen't look wet all the time,,the photo you saw was taken at the NSRA nats south and it was raining,,but the finish dosen't ever look washed out or gray. Heck,,all I do is wash it from time to time,,that's it! HRP
That's the beauty of paint instead of primer...UV additives. Keeping it washed is going to be the best way to keep it looking black. A light wet sand will give it a smoother finish that will hold less dirt. You can email Kirker to see if they have specific recommendations. http://www.kirkerautomotive.com/html/faq.html
Used Kirker Arctic White and Viper Red for my wagon. Very pleased wtih the results. Just ordered more Viper Red for another project.
smartshoppersinc.com carries the full line of Kirker. They also sell Kirker paint packages and a good price that includes everything you need to do the job right without having to think about it. Check it out. I have flyers with specials from them somewhere.
I have sprayed MANY cars with Kirker products. Tough as nails paint, and looks good. For the money, they cant be beat.
This was painted with all Kirker products by a retired paint and body man. He swears by it. I have about $500 in paint, primer, solvents, and sandpaper from the supplier mentioned earlier. I think it looks great but I havn't given the true road test yet.
Kokey Kirker? Doesn't he make tires?...seriously, a couple of my paint and body friends swear by the stuff
they make some cool lookin candies. i just got a chip board from my friend and a price sheet. they sell a whole pakage for 359$ from primer to clear. i was wondering how good this stuff was... now i know!
I just checked out their virtual car show on Kirkers website... hotrodprimers truck is there looking nice as always... but there was a ton of nice metallics and flaked rides in there. Nice looking stuff. And reasonably price it looks like.
