I have a 62 comet wagon, and i want front discs. I have been told the early mustang stuff won't fit. Any ideas?

The Mustang stuff will fit, but is hard to find. '75-'80 Granada/Monarch will also fit, but there are bump steer issues and they are not as easily found either. The best bet is a kit that will allow retaining your original spindles. Try SSBC.

  3. maverick and later comet will fit. you will need 63' upper control arms for ball joints. their is a few good ford sites with all the swap info.

check with Southern Rod and Customs. They have alot of converstion kits that use the org. spindals. We did a 47 Chevy disc conversation it was all bolt on and very easy to install. We use this set up on most all of our conversation now. Very nice set ups.

  7. you can also talk to Anwar at Brake Tech Solutions. He has kits, but can also custom-engineer whatever you want using your original spindles.

  8. Mustang stuff won't fit - at least not if you just want to use just the brakes. Different tie rod ends, different Ball joint sizes etc. Lots of parts swapping.
I used a scarebird kit on my wifes 60 wagon and kept the 4 lug so i wouldn't have to mess with the rear end. Uses Sentra rotors and Cavalier calipers. Got the kit of that big auction site with the E

Finally something I know about! :D A guy can't chip in on a hot rod board when he doesn't know shit about older cars. :D

If you don't mind swapping to early Mustang front suspension parts, you can use the Mustang discs, Granada type discs, or an after market conversion kit, for either mustang stuff or your early comet stuff. There is a way to get the Granada type brakes without the potential bump steer issues. www.discbrakeswap.com makes a new 1965 Mustang spindle that's made to accept Granada brakes. In fact, they sell a complete ready to go kit for $550. Dennis, the owner, seems like a good guy with a good product and definitely knows his shit.

It beats buying a junkyard granada setup and having bump steer issues after you've dropped $400 on new rotors and parts. Heck, you can't even touch the price of that kit here in the fine state of Ohio, because a junkyard fresh granada setup might fetch $200 if you can find one; it seems some company buys all of them directly from the yard owners and pays $100 per setup, so they're gone lonnnggg before joe schmoe gets there.

If you want to keep the 4-lug, I'd go scarebird, I have one of his older 5-lug kits and i like it a lot, but Mark is kind of a jackass, it took me raising Cain on several Mustang sites before he agreed to take back a defective set of "prototype" brake brackets.
